Physical, I like having a copy that I will own forever no matter what. Granted digital copies don't seem to be going away anytime soon, but say suddenly steam closes its doors, you'd most likely have no way to get that digital copy again should something happen. I personally am not a huge fan of that. Also having a physical copy is nice when you have to reinstall things for whatever reason. For example, this summer I have to install Windows 7 and my PC won't let me straight upgrade from XP, I am going to have to re download half my library off of steam, its probably going to be upwards of 100+gigs. That is unfortunately going to take a while...whereas I could pop that physical copy in and just install.

Also I don't get why digital copies aren't slightly cheaper than hard copies. I don't get a box, I don't get a disk, nor do I get a manual so why am I paying the exact same price? Why don't they at least knock off $5.

Physical copy. Less can go wrong w/ it (i.e., downloaded wrong, improperly, etc.) and if you don't want it anymore, you can sell it to get some of your money back.

I prefer a physical copy. Although right now Sega is pissing me off so much that I might just start getting games off Steams. It has now be three days since Napoleon: Total War was released in Canada and there still isn't ONE hard copy in stores.

It depends on the game for me - I'll happily get digital copies, but I am not gonna fork over $60+ for a digital copy of a game when the distributing company doesn't have to worry about boxes, printing, shipping, etc. I can't help but feel like they are taking advantage. I can't believe they are still asking $30 for Saints Row 2 on XBL. Although I guess it is only a year and a 1/2 old.

This is why I hate surveys. I like digitial copies, but not because I don't have anything to show for it. It's because games are starting to pop up on two dvds and I really don't like switching between them. Plus having everything on steam is quite handy.

Depends, PC I do everything through Steam, except Sins of A Solar Empire, or anything else I want and can't find, but that's one game in the last year compared to the 20 something I've brought (Just for the PC). PS3 they have to be on the shelf in a hard copy format, that being said all my disks are in DVD sleeves so the boxes are empty.

I always go with digital if it's available. First, I don't have to deal with the pile of game boxes anymore - I finally got rid of most of my PC game boxes. The only ones I kept are some of the nice Special Edition boxes anyway (like the WoW ones, which are gorgeous).

Second, there are a lot fewer questions from the wife about digital games purchases ;)

I go for physical copies. Put them in a place were the temperature stays constant and out of the sunlight, and they're good for years to come. When they die on me, I probably don't feel the urge anymore to play them. Just got to remember where I left them.
Now where did I put that StarCraft disk again?

gee a physical copy is great , digital downloading takes time and paying twice for a game is wrong ... you pay for the digital game and you pay for isp and bandwidth or net time

gee i thought with all the technology downloading would be quick , even for consoles ... 5 hours for 6 gb is bullshit unless its due to not having high speed

Physical copy. I like having something I can say is mine. Something to take up a little space. Besides, I'm a pack-rat, I love owning stuff. Physical stuff. Not just a couple of Terra-bytes of games on my computer that can flick out of existence if I get the right virus.

I prefer owning a physical copy of the game for a couple of reasons, the biggest one is because downloading it takes up space on the computer/PS3/XBox/Whatever.

There's one option in the poll I'm missing, and that is that it depends on the price. Can I get a boxed game from Amazon for less than it costs to dowload? Box it is. Does Steam have the game on sale? Download it is. I couldn't care much less for boxes on the shelf or a game on a download server, I just go with whichever takes less out of my wallet.

Less can go wrong with it? That's not an argument. What about scratches, drive failure or other accidents? If it downloaded wrong, download it again. If it's bugged, wait for it to get patched. Fixing mistakes with downloads is easier than fixing damage to disks, plus, it's not your responsibility to do so.

I have to admit, I am very surprised at the response to this poll. I absolutely detest having to put in a CD/DVD every time I want to play a single player game, and it seems that all game publishers want you to do this. I would much rather have a digital copy.

Of course that comes with a big caveat: I must always have access to the digital copy. Even if that means I have to download the digital media and protect it myself.
