Don't much care for Fallut:NV's hardcore mode. Implementation feels half arsed & itdoesn't really live up to the name.

Some games yes, other games no.

It really depends on how it is implemented within the game. Ranger Hardcore on Metro 2033 is my favourite game mode of all. The enemies are relentless, you have extremely limited ammo and die almost instantly, but the enemies are also fairly quick to kill if you are a good enough shot. As such, a skilled player could technically get through Ranger Hardcore without dying even once, and probably do a speed run much faster than on easier modes.

Obviously I've died a few times, but in general I actually find Hardcore easier on there than Easy was.

Conversely, Halo implements it badly. You die fast and often, death is practically unavoidable, especially on levels like Halo 3's Cortana. Enemies take forever to kill, ammo is still plentiful and it is generally just an exercise in annoyance and controller breaking levels of self control to prevent it being launched into the TV.

Not really a fan, because most iterations just end up being annoyances or just make the game more tedious. Also I'm not a fan of hardcore modes that destroy all your progress just because there are so many factors that could lead to a death that isn't their fault. For example I've had people come to my door or something, and many games like MMOs you can't really pause, so do you either completely ignore someone at your door, risk somehow getting killed to run to the door, or do you get to a safe zone, spend the time logging out and then pray the person is still at the door?
Also most games really don't seem to be designed anywhere near the intention of being played on such a mode. For example Left 4 Dead, realism mode is absolutely dreadful. I've breezed through expert mode and both games without any real difficulty and have had a ton of fun (except for dead carnival, which made me pull at hair at crescendo events) yet realism expert is a terrible experience. And it is in my opinion the reason why this is, is because the game was designed around the fact that the players are able to normally trek through a level taking multiple hits, and finding various items. But in realism mode, that enormous stretch is damn near impossible to get through because you essentially have to play the game so perfectly that it is almost inhuman and the slightest chance of random bad luck screws you completely to no fault of your own.

Depends on the game entirely, if i am playing for immersion and story like with F:NV i'll go with the standard normal mode. But for games like Diablo, where the story isn't so much in focus, then i'll opt for the extra challenge to keep me interested.

Depends on the game. Personally, I don't really like "hardcore" modes, but that's because I tend to play for fun rather than for stressing myself out. I do enough of that already with other stuff I get into. x_x
Pretty much says it there.

I've got nothing against Hardcore modes, but I hate it when some people make it sound like playing on normal detracts from the experience. Normal mode is still the same game.

Of course it depends on the game.

Like if STALKER had a hardcore mode. What would that be? Flying Bloodsuckers roam the land?

I'll only play hardcore on COD. FF cuts out some of the spraying and grenade spamming and all your shots count.

Having said that on CODBO the motion sensor and jammer are useless on HC. That would be fine if unlocking pro perks were not tied to there use. Good to see Treyarch thought that through.

I hate that developer.

In new vegas, I did not find Hardcore any harder really, just infinitely more frustrating. You could not really play a melee character for instance, because your health just did not come back fast enough.

So, I was a sniper until I got bored of chugging liquid and sleeping all the time.
