Okami had it bad. Every puzzle that came up, "Hey Ammi! Look at that thing right there, do you think you should try [blatant give away hint] on it to see what happens?" Shut up Issun. I've beaten the game. I've unlocked everything. So just shut your bug mouth.

I liked how Braid did tutorials. Yes, there were very few buttons to press, but it was all non-intrusive.

I think the most painful one though was Armored Core 4.

Oh you meant like every single game out there? If a game is intuitive enough, it doesn't need tutorials. Whenever i see a tutorial, I lower my expectations.

All I do is read the main objective and go.
I try to ignore tips as much as I can, unless im getting my ass kicked, I like to find things out on my own, it adds greater reward for finding out about it.
And i hate games that hold your hand through the game, Yatzee said something about a game that did this when he reviewed a Wii game.

Personally I don't mind tutorials, but only if the game has some weird controls, or there are game specific things that need explaining. I hate when a game has a forced tutorial and they try and teach me things I already figured out 5 minutes into the game. I do like an arrow system in large open world games, just because it can be a pain to navigate to a specific house in a massive city, I don't find it fun going into 50 different houses looking for one person. If I'm just exploring random areas and looking for side quests, an arrow isn't going to bother me.

Fable 2.
I don't really think I need a sparkly little trail of fucking fairy dust from the sprite of navigation to keep my ever wandering eye on the place I'm headed. It's like they tested the mechanic on some kid and every time he looked away to ask for food or a bathroom break they were like "Nope didn't keep his attention turn up the sparkly!"

Prince of Persia 2008.
For fuck sake I don't need you to turn everything gray and slow down time when I accidentally jump off a high place or over a gap.

And dammit I want to be able to die in battle rather than have elika lend a helping hand at the last second!

No matter what the age I think including an instructional DVD with a game is JUST PLAIN WRONG yes mario glaxey 2. Whats more ridiculus is the fact you can't even play the DVD on a wii it's useless. I mean it's on the sequeal of a game so people know how to walk, what was more surprising was the common "press A to jump" wasn't on the actaul game not even just in the corner I don't understand why it felt the need to do this mario one was fine I didn't mind a little hint in the corner telling me what to do once or twice but anyone who can sit through the mind numbing experiance of a woman telling you what a wii stick is and how to put a disk into a wii bravo.

I don't care if I'm rambling it just irited me.

well, I can't really tell you a game in particular, or anything in particular in any game, but I do have special memories from Black on the PS2

on the loading screen it usually says a couple stuff like objectives and that kind of things, then there's "black intel" which I dont think it has a whole lot of "intel" in it, for example, one of the messages it said was: "shoo red barrels to make them explode" or "remember, silencers make your guns less loud", and all I could think of was "GENIOUS"

(one day I actually said out loud "no shit sherlock" when it displayed "remember, enemies WILL attack you on sight")

Very small complaint, but I didn't like how in Kane and Lynch 2 when you throw an explosive thingamabob at the enemy, your next shot shoots it automatically. It would have felt more rewarding if I actually had to aim the shot to make it go boom.

Can't really be specific but I hate that. Although sometimes it's understandable, games aren't just for us intelligent people. Although I wish it was...

It's not only the tutorials that are sometimes a pain. The worst parts are when the tutorials are baked into main story mode quests or some such, as is the case with Red Dead Redemption. Regardless of whether or not you've figured out how to shoot, ride a horse, or do any number of things, by god you need to do it in a quest before you can actually play the good missions.
