They did. The idea was that;

Time had no meaning in the "afterlife" place. Everyone who survived and left went on to live full lives until they eventually did die.
I know, I posted something stupid. I was tired and it seemed like a plausible theory. TRUST ME, I prefer the "Everything did actually happen, they just went to Heaven" theory.

So many people hate this show.... I didn't know it was this unpopular on the good ol' Escapist.

The whole thing WAS NOT a dream or purgatory, only the 'Flash sideways' universe was. And even then it was a manifestation of the ultimate growth of all the characters, which is a fucking awesome way to end it. I am 100% satisfied with the ending. It was perfect. Lost has always been character driven, the 'story' was only ever there as a side note to facilitate the trials and tribulations of the characters, hence the huge amount of flash backs in the show.

It is about the journey, not the destination, it was about the character growing and letting go, and moving on from things so that they find themselves in a better place, which is exactly what we go to see happen. Everything makes sense perfectly if you think about it.

PhillyD says it better than I ever could

My only complaint with the show in general is that it didn't keep the slow pace set in the first 2 seasons. I would have liked it drawn out more, maybe to 8 seasons so than we see more growth in the characters. I felt like they had to speed it up to accommodate for falling ratings in season 2. But otherwise it is perfect and remains my top show of all time.

It made my life.

Thats not a theory, thats what happens dude, if you misinterpret it, its because you weren't paying attention to the dialogue. It not, that's what probably happened, or its a good theory, it is what happens, that is the script.

Okay, I messed up the explanation for the ending. I WAS paying attention. I stayed for the whole two and a half hours eating bags of Doritos , drinking Coke and even watched the damn re-cap.

It was just a speculation going around my house. I'm going to consider my first post edited.

It's over? Finally. Was I the only one who thought that this was suppossed to be a simple plane-crash-survival-story that got turned into this time-traveling-island-purgatory-convoluted-plot-thing because the writers ran out of ideas and shot up some heroine to get those ole' creative juices flowing?

Oh God, that sentence was so damn hyphenated.

To all the people that are like "OMG the show ended? thank god" If you dont like the show don't watch it, why do you have a problem with it existing? I seriously don't understand the above statement.

Thank you. There seems to be a lot of that plaguing this thread for some reason.

I created this thread with the intention of a memorial service. Instead, people are just laughing at Lost's cold, dead corpse.

Everything is going to be unpopular to some degree here.

As for me, I was up at 5 in the morning to watch the finale and now I'm gonna watch it all again from the start with newfound knowledge.

I will always miss it OP. When Jack's eye closed, it was the closing of an era. I don't think anything on TV will capture my interest like Lost did.

Same here on good ole Sky 1, I tell you what though, when that "Temporary fault" came up right at the bloody start AFTER the "Previously, on LOST" bit I almost pooed myself and literally said "Nooo, noo bloody way" lol, thank gawd it was only for a second. But besides that and one part where the voices went a little off, went alright for a "Live Stream".

Btw Glad my posts going over the seasons helped! Personally, I bawled like a baby second time watching the end, with the first time me deep in thought with what just happened. What hit home for me was the idea of "Live Together, die Alone", and thought Jack would die alone, but Vincent came to be with him.

I completely agree. Lost was my favorite show, I'm sad to see it end. I'll still keep watching the box sets.

Please, to all those who hate it after one season or for no good reason; fuck off. You didn't like it fine, please don't spread your negativity here. "I hate it 'cause the premise changed." So what? Your problem. Don't be a dick and try to ruin it for everyone else, accept there are lots of fans and go on with your life. You didn't like it, does it make a big difference on your life? No, so piss off. Leave it for the fans. It didn't take over your lives like some malevolent black smoke monster did it?

Sorry about that, I just get annoyed about the retarded haters. I for one absolutely fucking loved the ending, and the entire show. It's been my favourite for several years, since Twin Peaks really. I'll miss it a lot (I went through puberty with this show. Started at 14, finish just before I turn 20) and I've loved every minute. I would like to thank everybody involved in the show.

I think it was an excellent ending to an excellent show. People will ***** and moan about the lack of answers, but Lost is a character show first and a mystery show second, some hanging threads are acceptable.
The ending will be endlessly torn to shreds for "being a dream" because some idiots think they understand what the hell is going on in the show without having watched it past Walkabout or thereabouts xD
Overall a bittersweet experience, I'm sad my favourite show is gone, but I'm happy it got it's send off.
Oh well, time to finish those X-Files boxsets.

Lost is mainstream, so my expectations for the show are so low that they could be met by a football to the groin. However, I will say that I'm getting a bit tired of this "leave it up to the audience to interpret for themselves" bull crap.

When I watched the opening episode, it was cool.

When I watched it again, I thought it was still pretty cool.

When I saw the first episode for the millionth time... Not so much.

Seriously, does anyone else remember that? Most abused re-run in TV history.

My family and I would spread out in the living room every week in anticipation, only to see the same episode every frickin' time. That plane crashed on my screen so many times it left residue.

Brilliantly said. I may not be as in love with the ending as you are, but that doesn't matter. Plus I'm still thinking about it. (I'm with you on Twin Peaks too). You're my new TV Hero.
