Spelling and grammar errors by those with a first language other than English are pretty hilarious, but from an English speaker they only result in facepalms and suicidal urges on my end. You're/your, it's/its, there/their...I had this down in fourth grade, how the hell are people still getting it wrong every minute?

"Us"? I hope you don't think you speak for the esacpist at large.
Nope. What I meant was me and my friends who are with us at the moment. Things like this should be common sense. You're taking part in a community. So shouldn't you take care anyway...

On seconds thoughts I guess it does bother us.

I hate when people don't know the difference between "they're", "their" and "there". Also "then" and "than". Also the R's and U's bug me quite a bit.

Usually I don't correct people when I spot these. I just let the rage build up inside me and one day I'll turn into a huge green dude. THEN it's going to be smashing time!
Easier way: take a few hits of acid, put on Green Man suit. It's impossible to go wrong from there.

Yeah, it's quite disgusting how the quality of acceptable language standards has dropped in recent years.

omgwtfbbq? i lol'd when i read this. afaik imho don't sweat the lolcats, they're fuzzy and make good slippers for blind kids.

Seriously, don't let it bother you that much. The age of idiots in chat rooms has given rise to idiots with text messaging and twitter. I have a couple of cousins that if you read their twitters and text messages you would assume there is nothing going on upstairs, but one is working on her master's degree, so I'd say it's pretty much here to stay, and if you learn to ignore it, I promise you will be a much happier person. :)

A lot of people are simply unintelligent. Lots more place zero value on being literate. Complaining won't change that. Don't get me wrong - I adore my language and lament every time I see it being mutilated, but wasting your energies will get you nowhere. Better you spend them writing a book or somesuch, to cheer on the good guys rather than booing the baddies.

Damn straight.

If you don't type in a grammatically correct manner, then chances are your opinion will be degraded.

Its perfectly understandable in game when you have no headset and have to chat/issue commands whilst battling zombies/terrorists but when you have a full keyboard, limitless time and auto spell checking in-browser there isn't much excuse.

I don't know if it's anything more than laziness really. I mean, why type three letters when you can type one? Not to mention anyone who text messages regularly will fall into this habit because I think we can all agree texting without an auto-fill is f***ing annoying. Personally I like to take a little extra time and make myself sound/look a little less retarded.

I'm not here to critise. Ok, it appears that you do not fully understand irony. I perscribe watching watching Yahtzee's Duke Nukem Forever review three times a day for three to four weeks until you grasp it.

you better get used to it because its reaching outside the internets; nowadays people prefer to just say "lol" over actually laughing

I really don't care how others write as long as I can decipher it without too much effort.
I try to use good grammar and spelling but I make mistakes, just like everybody else.

It's fine in games in my opinion, as you need to type quickly otherwise you will die. Which is where mics come in, but still I'll forgive bad typed English in games.

No. Lolcats are fucking stupid.

The only thing that really bothers me is when people just put "lol" in a sentence. No block with punctuation, not even a break at all, just "and then I said no lol and she said yes and I was like omg lol."

Makes you look like a fucking monkey.
"Lol" has to be, easily, the most overused/lied about term on the internet. Think for a minute: How many people do you really think laughed out loud before putting "Lol?"
[small]Believe it or not, we debated this for an entire class period.[/small]

OT: I never use terms like LOL, etc. But they can become incredibly annoying (Like when an occurance, much like the one stated above) happens to arise.
In a game is fine, but on the internet where there is no time constraint, the same rules don't apply. I can understand a few misspelled words (I do it all the time) but when your sentence looks like: "So gaiz which do u lyk bett3r pokemanz or digimanz lol?" I draw the line.

My usual rule is that as long as the writing is understandable then I have no problem (we should judge someone's writing based on the opinion it contains, not the way it's presented).

Granted, we should try our best to present our work as grammatically perfect as possible but it shouldn't be a grave offence if they fail to meet our ridiculously high standards (who the hell died and made you King of Language?).
