I really don't see how that's racist.

If any commercial struck me as offensive, if not racist, it was the Tibet one. But I'm not really one to get up in a snoot about such things.

Can you clarify how that could possibly be offensive?

Tibetans have been forced from their home or worse. The Chinese government is actively trying to stamp out any hint of Tibetan culture and the world has essentially said "Sorry about that".

It'd be like if Don Cheadle started plugging Hilton's new "Hotel Rwanda". It increases awareness, but it's pretty insensitive.

I agree, in no way was this racist. You could very easily (like you pointed out) have changed the race of any of the characters and it would have been the same. People are just over-reacting like they have a tendency to do (and in turn marginalizing the real racist events).

And the ironic thing? The fact that people caring so much about race only perpetuates the idea that race is an important difference amongst people. When you stop looking at people's race as anything beyond simple physical characteristics and start judging them by their personality, racism will no longer be an issue. But when you constantly criticize a situation because there are people of different races acting in different ways, you only support the idea of innate differences in race.
Exactly, and it is this exact reason that I think racism will soon be a thing of the past(in historical terms). Look at the reactions so far on the escapist, they all say not racist because none of use really see these people as black or white, we just see people. The escapist is a young community, compared to the fox news, which appeals to an older audience. I don't know about the rest of you, but I see a very small number of racists in our generation. There are still some, but I see many more racists who are 40+ than under that. maybe that's just me.

Oh please. Super Bowl commercials have always been far more sexist than racist. Every woman in a Super Bowl ad is either a sex object or a nagging wife that lives only to be avoided or outsmarted somehow.

Last year I had to write a whole paper on this. It was kind of sucky to realize that that was pretty much it. I also argued that it hurt young men because they think they have to get laid and be a womanizer and the woman he marries will be a ball and chain and a pain in the ass and it's pretty much the guy's death sentence.

It's a garbage way to look at women.

Racist and offensive, are you kidding me?
Well this has finally confirmed to me that a large group of people on a gaming forum site are more intelligent than the majority. Way to go America.

I don't like that the pretty girl got hurt but it's not racist, just a hate crime (if you believe in such things).

See, nobody would care at all if it were a white woman throwing the can and having it hit another white woman.

And that right there, that's racism. The fact that it's only a big deal because it involves minorities is racism.

Just like most everything else going on in the US, this is nothing more than absolute bullshit. On a side note, obviously the commercial isn't demeaning, otherwise those black people wouldn't have participated. Overly sensitive people as usual. Minorities get loads of benefits in this country just because they're minorities (such as the three trillion scholarships that you can get simply for being black, Mexican, etc., some businesses are forced to give a certain amount of jobs to minorities) and us white guys get yelled at the moment we have an actress throw and aluminum can at another actress. It was clearly portrayed as accidental, anyway! The guy dodged the can, for Christ's sake.

What the fuck is this shit.

Semi-related: Unless she was taking the last drink from that can, that was a horrible waste of Pepsi MAX, and I feel offended that anyone would exhibit such blatant disregard for the sanctity of Pepsi MAX.

If you squint a little and tilt your head you can see the racism. It's kinda hard to see if you aren't actively looking for it where it doesn't exist.

I think it's cuz the black guy was looking at the white woman...like he'd rather have her. IDK. I noticed the can was black... v.v

Um..that was supposed to be accidental. If you look closely the woman saw her man giving googly eyes to another woman and the can was meant to hit him. Acting in defense the man ducked and the projectile just happened to hit the Caucasian Female. It was all mere coincidence and nothing more. To accuse it of racism is just silly.
Well, in the scene it was an accident. But it was written into the script on purpose. "So why's a black woman gotta hit a white woman? You think it's funny when a white woman gets hit? Racist!" or alternatively, "So black women are all violent, is that it?"

Why thank you, perhaps I should patent that racism test and collect a nickel every time it's used. ;)
You seem new. You should quote the person you're talking to (you can replace the text of their post with "snip" for brevity) so they'll be alerted that you've replied to them.

Here in Southern Louisiana I've formulated a racism test:

-If it was meant with hate or meant to hurt/bash someone and their race then it's racist.
-If you look at a normal situation and -needlessly- see race being involved when it really isn't, then THAT'S racism.

Commercial = Not Racist
Congresswoman = Racist
I support this.

Heh, that's a pretty funny commercial right there. Definitely not racist, just amusing.

You've been here two years and your only just figuring that out?
Figured it out a long time ago, it's just occaisionally I suffer minor brain hemorages from the sheer stupidity of some people.

I guess Congress Woman Lee was more worried about a Pepsi comercial rather than the problems faceing her constituents. Maybe she would have perfered that the can hit another black woman. Maybe she just wanted to hear herself talk. I'm pretty sure though she's just an idiot.

More like a large group on a gaming forum have a bigger ego than the majority.
Fair enough, I'm just saying though. I see far less stupid comments on the escapist than I hear in real life.
