Although whining about a fucking retarded Marvel property in all of its convoluted glory is rather stupid (they're right wing, everything is a leftist conspiracy even tap water, nothing new), so is claiming that you didn't know that the Norse gods were white.

What? Did I miss a massive influx of people from the Congo sailing up into deadly seas with canoes, completely unprepared for the climate, hell bent on getting some Swedish meatballs? Sorry dumbass, the Norse gods were white. That isn't racist, it is simply true. There wasn't much in the way of international migration back in those days (chances are you never left the region you were born in) unless some tribe invaded and raped everything that moved. Apart from the occasional Norse merchant near the Middle East it would be entirely correct to say that 99% of the Norse had never seen a black person. Why should the gods they imagined be black then? Because they were worried about diversity? Ahahahaha!

I see idiots spread out before me.

The whole bloody world has gone insane.
Yes it has. :) Next we'll have Asian hobbits and Gandalf will be Samoan.
I'm losing IQ points just breathing the same air as the morons who have taken over the world. :(

The Statement also makes plain the organization's desire for the United States to be extremely Christian, curmudgeonly, and for its citizens to appear as hobbit-like as possible.
Allow me to butt in here. Yes it's true that America sees very heavy influence from Europe, but these guys saying that America is a European country is wrong on more levels than geographic. There is a reason we are called the melting pot.

Also, they are wrong in saying that America should be expressly Christian. Quoth the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or the free exercise thereof."

Marvel is similarly criticized on the politically conservative Boycott-Thor.com, whose motto is "Keep social engineering out of European mythology." Apparently unaware that Marvel orchestrated an elaborate and embarrassing plotline by which Spider-Man and his wife made a deal with the devil to erase their marriage from memory rather than see the iconic superhero suffer the destructive liberal indignity of divorce, Boycott-Thor.com put forth the following indictment of the publisher:
So, let me get this straight: making a deal with the incarnation of pure unadulterated evil is somehow better than divorce?

Marvel is headed by radical left-wingers who insert their ideologies and agendas into their comic books and movies.

In February 2010, the TEA Party movement was viciously attacked in an issue of Captain America. Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Qesada publicly defended the issue.

Marvel creator and front man Stan "Lee" Lieber is a notorious left-winger and financier of left-wing political candidates.
Since when does "left-wing" equal "evil"?

"What is needed is a school campaign to get White kids to boycott everything that comes out of Marvel Studios," wrote a human being called Annis Isbell. Another fan of the boycott, James Hick wrote, "Need to try and get black sepratists in on this to. Let them know that marvel is trying to negate and down play their racial culture & heritage and saying by default blacks are cultureless unless they imbrace the white mans culture. That would sit a black back lash," which we suppose is an almost utopian sentiment for someone whose Facebook profile pic is the Confederate flag.
That's it. I'm adding these guys to my list of things that piss me off.

Heimdall was called the whitest of the gods. Why the hell should he be portrayed as black?

It just doesn't make sense

BEHOLD! HEIMDAL IN ALL HIS BLACK GLORY!

Seriously, though. This is pretty funny.

Not the marvel comic, obviously.

EDIT:
http://marvel.com/universe/Heimdall

That's the Marvel version. Even more proof why this movie making him black is ridiculous.

Norse gods were white because the people who worshipped them were white. Period.
So ofcourse someone is bugged about it. Even I find it fricking stupid. But do I care that much about it? Nah. A shit movie where a black dude plays Thor? Sounds like something I wouldnt even rent.
but who cares who plays a norse god? black white asian. there a freaking GOD i am sure they can take on what ever form they want.
And why would they take on the form of a people who dont even worship them?

Still its a shit movie. Its a movie based on a comic book written by Marvel thats about "Thor" fcol.
why not take on the form of someone who doesnt worship them. maybe cause in black person form they would stand out more surrounded by white people
I think the whole part where they are GODS make them stand out quite enough. But sure, Jesus was black to. Hell all white people should be black to. Lets blackify everything!

Besides, they also got a shitty actor for the roll as well. Wich just makes the whole thing even worse.

It's not racist to want a mythological god of a specific people to be portrayed in a manner like the said people. Imagine if there was a movie about Aztec Gods made. Do you know how much bull it would be to actually cast a white, asian, etc. person in there? It would have less credibility as a form of art.

I am all for this boycott.

Look up the character Idris it to play on Wikipedia. He doesn't fit the description at all. Even then why does a black character have to be forced into it? For the sake of making sure every racial demographic goes to the movie for ticket sales? Pfft. It'll sell regardless.

I'll repeat a previous post.

Do you not follow the comics or the info about the movie? The Marvel characters are not gods. They are beings from another realm/planet who came to Earth. They happened to end up in the Nordic regions, and because they were more advanced, they were seen as gods. They are not human, nor do they hail from Earth.Their skintone means nothing

I don't think it has that much to do with race. It's just the same thing as when the fanboys freaked out because Sonic's eyes were green.
Sega is just racist against black eyes!

OT: A racism group overreacting for media attention? Really not shocking but then again considering it's over a movie on a comic this time...*facepalm* Ung. That's all I gotta say.

Well, I hate to be the devils advocate, but...

Heimdall IS described as being the palest god as the Norse pantheon, and he is pale in the comics, so it's basically the same thing as when people got angry over them not giving a lady the part of an elf because elfs are supposed to be pale.

Of course it does.
Marvel essentially made its name during WW2 by depicting Germans and Nazis as sub-human. The first Captain America comic cover pictured old Cap punching Adolf Hitler in the face.

This continued onto the Cold War with Russians and even today with terrorists. In the comics Iron Man was kidnapped to make weapons for communists. Now thats been retconned in the movie where its mysteriously changed to terrorists.

I daresay Marvel would give Jesus an Asian actor with the cultural indifference fad. If they had the chance that is.

And if you asked any writer at Marvel about this they will say something on the lines of 'its our universe we will do what we want in it.'

Now ranting over I wont care who is in it if its a good film I will like it.

I wouldn't cry "racism" at the slightest provocation like you lot are prone to do, or should i say, as the politically correct collective hivemind of humanity is prone to do.

Just think about it, why would a god from Norse mythology not be white, seeing as how it's a dogma constructed by people who were white and who had basically no contact at all with black people?

Then again, i don't really care. This isn't an adaptation of Norse mythology as much as an adaptation of a bastardization of Norse mythology perpetuated by some superhero comicbook writers when the cocaine was running low and they started running out of original ideas.

Wait 1 question as a comic noob (liking comics and gaining knowleage atm of supers) are there any *dark-toned* characters in the comic and are they appering in the moive otherwise i dont understand why people are making a fuss about it. If there isn't and there will be because of pressure wouldn't it be safe to assume that the actor/actress would be but in the 'token black' role, so whats the point O.O

As for this group, racists making racist statements are not a surprise. Their reasons for their outrage are purely racist and should not be considered.

As for this actor playing a Norse God, the Norse would have undoubtedly depicted their Gods to appear like them (Think of the Christian "created in God's image" when we don't know God's image but know our own). Ignoring source material such as well established mythology (also happened with the well know book The Hobbit in the Lord of the Rings universe that caused the whole casting issue) is something that shouldn't be done, race of your actor is important, but not in a discriminatory way, when older times (much more racist than current day) are what you are basing your story on.

I could actually quite understand why Heimdall, father and origin of mankind should be played by a black guy. Thats antropology meeting mythology :)
But of course its not the role of the marvel character

so it doesnt matter after all.
But actually. yeah. I really have to say i'd rather see the asgardians pale. A black guy wearing a viking outfit just looks somehow strange , if not
Well i bet they got good costume designers that may prevent it being a sting in the eye and if he plays the role good, its alright with me.
But he definatly will have to do a harder and better job than other actors would have to make himself believable

What I like most is this line:

Marvel is headed by radical left-wingers who insert their ideologies and agendas into their comic books and movies.
Whereas the CCC are a bunch of calm-headed moderates who look at both sides of every issue fairly, and don't try to skew things to match their chosen narrative?

And I also especially like that line in the context of this one:

Apparently unaware that Marvel orchestrated an elaborate and embarrassing plotline by which Spider-Man and his wife made a deal with the devil to erase their marriage from memory rather than see the iconic superhero suffer the destructive liberal indignity of divorce
Awesome. Way more awesome than these people deserve.
