It's apparently because Muslims feel that dogs are religiously 'unclean' and 'impure' which I personally feel is a right load of... you can guess. I feel Muslims are entitled to their own beliefs, but England is a dog loving country and I feel it's ridiculous for the police to allow Muslims to essentially walk over them.

It's really the whole political correctness situation. If the police didn't remove it, they'd be deemed "racist" and have all sorts of groups attacking them. It's sad really and pretty depressing, especially when I really love dogs. ;-;

I live in Norway, so racism is very often encountered here.
Most people go around maiking "The 'N' word" jokes and all that.
No real hate though, justr generalisation and stereotypes that makes everyone here skeptical around coloured people.

Hmm, I can't think of any racists, however my parents DO believe that immigrants are coming over here to take all our jobs (and claim welfare..surely it's one or the other, lazy immigrants, taking two jobs at once while laying about doing nothing!).

Sadly they're Daily Mail readers, and don't seem to understand that it's not a newspaper but a recruiting pamphlet for the BNP.

They were one of the few people welcoming to the indian couple who took over the corner shop across the road when I was young and living at home, yet they believe that all the europeans coming to the UK are only after a free ride.

As has been said I think, I don't think we have to worry, give it 20 years or so and the last generation of people who grew up with racism as the norm will have died out. (Not that I'm wishing that on anyone's family!) We'll just be stuck with the wilfully ignorant then.

I almost don't even mind racism from the elderly, after all, 2 world wars, they've almost earned the right to be touchy about foreigners coming over here and talking funny at them, and there's something sort of funny about little old ladies talking about about 'darkies' and 'poofs', that I'd find far more reprehensible coming from a young person.

Muslims were engraged that the police used that image for the advertisement and the police removed it and apologized. I honestly think the police should of kept it and the Muslims who didn't like it respecfully kept to themselves.

It's not, it's just that minorities in Britain seem to be ridiculously easily offended. Or at least act like they are...for...some...reason. If they're angry at Tayside police for that picture they'll be moaning the foot of snow currently covering Dundee is too white.

On topic: My dad will refer to the Chinese take-away as the "chinkies" but that's about it. I think it's more about it being faster to say than "Chinese takeaway" that makes him say it, he's never espoused hate in any form. Other than contempt for spongers and especially immigrant spongers. Race isn't a factor for him...or me, since spongers piss me off too.

Before I read through page 3 I am going to say this. Racism IS NOT something to discriminate against a person of a certain country. THAT I is something completely different. Saying that Romanians are all liars and thieves is not being racist. Racism is hate against someone for their Ethnicity (IE color of their skin)

OT: I am a little bit racist because I know a bunch of racist jokes but that's about as far as i go.

I myself am a bit racist, but it's not willingly, it's just...I don't know, an unhealthy fear for something different, I guess.

I myself try and be polite and say to myself that we must never judge based on preconceptions, but it's pretty hard to not generalize, am I the only one that thinks this?

Some of my family is racist. Awhile ago, at a wedding, one of my family memebers starts making fun of the Chinese language, eventually devolving into saying "ching chong chang" etc. I just calmly said "Yeah, you're right. My fiancee's Chinese (now my wife -ed-), and I don't think I'll ever be able to speak Chinese fluently", then politely excused myself from the group.

My Grampy is racist but not bad racist, more like funny racist, if that makes sense. He had opinions in his time and times have changed and has accepted that, so he jokes around about being racist he is a funny man shame I don't see him as much.

My dad makes racist jokes but they're never founded on actual hate.

As for me, I'm not racist either, but it deeply irritates me when other religions feel they take ownership of the country in a way. I have nothing against them living in England, but if they do I presonally feel they should be respectful of others.

I mean, one thing that REALLY annoyed me concerning this was... well..

I did have a quick look into this.

turns out it was the Daily Mail who reported 'MUSLIM OUTRAGE', when in fact one muslim councillor got in contact with the police, saying that "My concern was that it?s not welcomed by all communities, with the dog on the cards. It was probably a waste of resources going to these communities."

One person, trying to advise the police on how to save some printing and distribution costs, hardly constitutes racial rioting.

In the end, no stores refused the poster, it seems.

It's the usual tale of the papers taking one dusky guy with a beard's mild comment to mean 'Hordes of muslims call for fatwa on YOUR puppies!' (Another tactic often used in headlines 'Muslims' and 'your' things, drilling home the us and them feelings.)

Of course extremist Muslims are bad and a national threat, the ones who want all non muslims wiped off the planet, however most moderate muslims just want to be left alone to enjoy their beards. Of course you'll never see that distinction in a Mail story.

My Dad is pretty homophobic.

My Grandmother is a bit sexist, but that's understandable since she's 90 years old, and never learned to read or write which would have helped her keep up with the times. She pretty much thinks old gender roles still more or less exist, she isn't actually prejudiced, but one time my Mom was talking to a female lawyer and my grandmother kept referring to her as "that nice secretary" no matter how many time we reminded her she was a lawyer. It's quite cute really.

My mom's not really 'racist' more xenophobic. She once told me that we should shut down the airline industry and immigration because 'people should stay in the places where they came from'. When I pointed out that my dad is actually a Dutch immigrant, she said 'that's completely different' and stopped talking about it.

She also has this belief that cellphones cause brain tumours and sterility. So I sent her a collection of medical studies committed in Britain, Denmark, Sweden, and an Interphone case study in Japan that found no relationship between brain tumours and cellphone use. Her response? "The Japanese will say anything for money." Ouch. This is what happens when your mom is raised in a small, white, all-Catholic town where no one knows the only black family who lives there because they don't go to church.

The only 'racism' that I've ever really been a part of is the back-and-forths I had with my old roommate and one of my high school friends. My roommate was an Italian Canadian, so we'd insult each others' heritage for a laugh. My high school friend, being one of three black kids in the entire town, made sure to make plenty of 'you damn white people' comments as a joke.

only in a joking way for me and my dad. Just the usual all Asians look alike, black people run fast. We know its not true but makes for a few laughs watching the Olympics n stuff like that. My boss on the other hand is openly racist towards Asians and it makes me a bit uncomfortable.

Exactly, stereotypes are there for a reason. They come from a true place, and represent a decently high percentage of the racial population that they describe.
your telling me...lets just say Im white...and live in NYC...and firmly believe Chris Rock is right....there are black people...and then there are...well you know the rest of that lol. im not getting banned on here lol
