My dad is kinda like Archie Bunker; he makes clear distinctions between people of different races, but he never thinks less of them.

My aunts, mom, and grandmother all seem to be very prejudiced against Asians in general. Which sucks because I always tend to have Asian girlfriends. They don't meet my family.

What Europe is this?

Poland/slovakia/romania/russia/estonia where they have hugh neo-nazi movements?

I don't know about your Europe, but the one I live in has a strictly civilised/medieval split down the middle
Grr, this statement made me angry. Especially since you know, i live in Estonia. And the god-damn swastika is illegal here, and the soviet communism symbol, too. At least i think so....some say it's a little bit overkill, but both the Germans and Russians trampled over our country and did a lot of damage. If someone would actually come out with some neo-nazi or communist signs or movements, then i don't care about freedom of speech or whatnot. This will make me and a lot of others very, very angry.

I guess i get angry since such hate has passed down from the previous generations, who saw all that crazy stuff.
For most of us, Soviet Russia was as bad as Germany at world war 2... well, i better shut up, since this kinda works me up to rant. And I don't really want to do that. just wanted to correct you, since I've been living here and know the people.
It's just that Estonia hasn't EVER gotten along with Russia, and that causes problems and...accusations.

And now that I read all what I've said, it made me think ,am i some sort of racist if i hate communists and anti-Semites/neo-nazis/whatnot, i*m not sure what they're called these days?

Well, enough of that, back to the thread.
I don't think anyone from my family is racist, or they hide it damn well.

Well, both me and my grandfather are in different ways. My grandfather never caught on to the tabooness of racial slurs, while I just have a subconscious emotional reaction to certain racial behaviors of strangers. Don't worry, I keep it inside and only vent it when alone.

Oh, I read from a few sources, I think they mostly just blew it out of proportion. Thanks for the information. :p

I wanna work on my beard xD
Thank you for being so polite about it.

Heh, my sources probably aren't much better, but at least they're not actively trying to make every moderate muslim in the country look like a bomb carrying hair trigger tempered psycho, like the national tabloids do, and it's from people in that area, not a journo who might have heard something about something. (google "raoul moat GTA star" for more examples of our media's amazing research skills, especially if it's something they don't want to fact check)

It's just very tiresome that whenever a muslim on a 'board' says something like 'how about if we went for printing these on blue instead of green, the next day the headlines are 'Muslim outcry on green issues, Fatwa on YOUR garden!' As opposed to 'muslim has opinion about thing, while not speaking for all muslims. :D

The last 'angry muslim protest' I saw was 3 bored looking guys standing outside a court holding bits of A4 up. Hardly a riot.

I'm Russian, everyone in my family is racist, including me. You see, we Russians, we hate everyone, especially other Russians. So I guess it's not really racism if you hate everyone equally.

Well I'm German, we also hate everyone, but we do it equally. So if racist is discriminating against one culture than we actually may not be, we discriminate equally thus treating everyone the same.

I suppose me *kind of* but only in a joky way with my hereditarily Belgian mate. I was born in France though so he gets more material, when we insult each others home lands. It's not rascist if your both joking and share chips right? Right guys? Chips negate rascism?

My parents are pretty damn stealthy about their racism, but sometimes it bubbles to the surface and it's ugly. My mother seems to have a particular gripe with Romanians -- she is of the opinion that they are all thieves.

Cripes.
Well, half of them are gypsies.
Your "explanation" is just further racism.

OT: A Chinese takeaway arrived early the other night and so my step-Dad used a rather specific insult to illustrate that he wasn't ready to eat yet.

Something to do with eyes and the colour yellow I believe. Can't say I've heard him come out with something like that before but it was embarrassing as fuck (even though he didn't say it to the guy's face).

Is it racist to hate stupid people?

But seriously, the last real racist I knew was my grandfather... he absolutely despised all Japanese people, probably because he fought in the Pacific theater of WWII as a marine. He's dead now, though.

My mom's side is really bad. The n-word is rarely used, but there's a very condescending tone used when talking about anyone who isn't white.
As for my dad's side, a few years ago, I attended my first tri-racial wedding. (Cousin is half South Korean, half Caucasian, and her husband is African American) So no, no racism issues there.

I prefer hanging out with my dad's side.

My dad makes racist jokes but they're never founded on actual hate.

As for me, I'm not racist either, but it deeply irritates me when other religions feel they take ownership of the country in a way. I have nothing against them living in England, but if they do I presonally feel they should be respectful of others.

I mean, one thing that REALLY annoyed me concerning this was... well..

[image height=50% width=50%]http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/07/01/article-1030798-01CF01ED00000578-898_468x338.jpg[/IMG]

Muslims were engraged that the police used that image for the advertisement and the police removed it and apologized. I honestly think the police should of kept it and the Muslims who didn't like it respecfully kept to themselves.
I did have a quick look into this.

turns out it was the Daily Mail who reported 'MUSLIM OUTRAGE', when in fact one muslim councillor got in contact with the police, saying that "My concern was that it?s not welcomed by all communities, with the dog on the cards. It was probably a waste of resources going to these communities."

One person, trying to advise the police on how to save some printing and distribution costs, hardly constitutes racial rioting.

In the end, no stores refused the poster, it seems.

It's the usual tale of the papers taking one dusky guy with a beard's mild comment to mean 'Hordes of muslims call for fatwa on YOUR puppies!' (Another tactic often used in headlines 'Muslims' and 'your' things, drilling home the us and them feelings.)

Of course extremist Muslims are bad and a national threat, the ones who want all non muslims wiped off the planet, however most moderate muslims just want to be left alone to enjoy their beards. Of course you'll never see that distinction in a Mail story.
You forgot to mention extremist muslims want to kill all non-extremist muslims as well.

OT: No one I know of in my family is racist. Some of my idiot cousins like to make racist jokes and pretend to be because I guess they think it makes them cool and edgy. Even my grandmother who was raised during the times of racism being common and accepted isn't, though her mother certainly was.
