My dad and I jokingly talk racist...
Sad thing is, sometimes we're not jokingly talking racist.
We're just talking racist.
My dad's racist. Yeah.

But with my other family (See, I have "two" families as my parents are divorces) I get into deep conversation that actually explain the faults when people of X race came to our country.
Not racist, these are just discussions.
Sometimes we talk about TEA for the entire dinner.
TEA's always interesting.

I come from a white Middle class family...

from TEXAS.

So my entire family is made up of racists and homophobes.
I'm currently living about a thousand miles from them so I don't have to worry about it as much. And thankfully, I never picked up their racist opinions. It's like they knew they were racist and worked REALLY hard to make sure I didn't grow up that way. Oddly enough they stoped giving a shit about it when my (now racist, bigoted, and homophobic) sister was born.

My family is semi-racist. Everyone in my family hates niggers. However to us, a ****** is not a black person. A ****** is a person who lives in ghettos listens to rap and shoots guns sideways, doesn't matter what race they are. My family also hates white trash to, so really we're just extremely egotistical and like to look down on people.

I feel very weird. My family is a family of rational, sane people. They're 'normal.' ITS SO STRANGE! Everyone else has some kind of a black sheep in their family, but there are none in mine. They're all so straight-edged and accepting of pretty much everything... No racist grandparents, no bigot cousins, my parents support gay marriage... Straight and narrow.

HELP ME. I NEED CONFLICT.
^sarcasm.
I'm pretty much in the same boat - and I'm quite glad. It would be terrible if a family member were racist, because then I would have to despise a member of my own family, which would suck.

Indian family so yeah, everyone is racist from both branches of my family in India. Let me list the crap I've heard from cousins, aunties, uncles, and grand-parents.

Can't date a Pakistani' cause they hate India, can't be with Muslims because they hate HIndu's, can't date Asians because the Chinese are against India (My family considers all Asians to be "Chinese"), can't date Africans because all of them are illiterate gangsters, can't be with Mexicans cause they're illegal immigrants, Jews are to obsessed with Money and sue everyone, and a white person will just divorce you.

Your probably thinking, that leaves basically other Indians. Nope. North Indians are to light, South Indians are to poor, Gujrati's have a backwards culture, sikhs are following a bastardization of Hinduism, Punjabis are thieves, etc. etc.

According to my relatives in India, they only people that are worth dating are from Mumbai.

-_-

All this, over Dating. I haven't even mentioned Marriage.

Thankfully, not everyone from my family is like that, the ones who live here in the US are all very tolerant (some dislikes still) .

One of my uncles says he's not racist, but he has some sort of stupid problem with inter-racial relationships and marriages. Especially one's between whites and blacks. Going as far to me once hearing him call somebody on television a "traitor" because that person married a black guy. Apparently, he's afraid of inter-racial marriage, because the offspring of said marriages will usually be black, and thus, make whites an increasing minority. I think he's stupid. I've been attracted to blacks a lot throughout my life. If my soul mate happens to be black and we have mixed-raced kids, I'd be proud of that as far as I'm concerned. If my uncle had a problem with that, I'd flip him off and tell him to go screw off. Which I'd be heartbroken to do since he's mostly a nice guy and we both enjoy comic books. He even especially helps me know about upcoming comic book conventions.

As for my parents, they say they're not racist, but they do somewhat have a problem with latinos. Or at least, the one's that come from Mexico. Especially the one's that come to America illegally. I don't like immigrants that break the law to come here illegally either, but I don't think they're terrible people. Yes, I'd like for them to know a good amount of english language, but if a good immigration bill was passed, and that it must allow some illegal immigrants to be allowed amnesity, I'd have no problem with it as long as they pay their taxes like all the rest of us American citizens.

Oh, and supposedly one of my aunts had a dog she named n*gger. *Facepalms and sighs*

Sometimes I hate my family. Yes, I'm always embarassed by them usually, but I only hate them for few reasons at times.

My mother is stealth racist, she's far too PC to come out and admit it but it shines through in little ways; my father and all of my grandparents are openly racist, my father against Hispanics/Latinos, my grandparents against pretty much any non-Caucasians. Yeah, they're a special group :/

I'm Russian, everyone in my family is racist, including me. You see, we Russians, we hate everyone, especially other Russians. So I guess it's not really racism if you hate everyone equally.
I try to explain that to people but they don't get it.

a lot of family on my dads side are racist, both jokingly and seriously at times. while i am not that racist i am very intolerant towards gay people. and i used to have gay neighbours, they were two brothers and they owned a flower shop and they had alot of flowers in their backyard (which my new neighbours are now destroying)and they hated me because i had the tendency to yell "Thats so gay" alot at which point my mom would give me an evil look. which is strange because they also hated my mom for some reason and they only liked my dad because he was the only one of us that actually interacted with them. i was also very happy when they decided to move and i just knew it was my fault that they were moving cause they would always glare at me whenever i was outside.

Same here, but with both my grandparents. They're not too vocal about it, but I have started picking up a number of things that could be seen as racist in what they say.

Well, I'll put it this way:

My uncle was in the Hitler Youth during WWII. That's not a big deal, most boys his age in Germany were. The issue is that he took to the racist indoctrination and never let it go.

We often joke about it, ie. present ridiculous opinions and arguments as our own, in order to prove how stupid and illogical they are. If you know Stephen Colbert, you know what I mean. Then there's always that one guy, who seems to be in on the joke, but is actually serious.

My sister's the only family member. She bought the whole "muslims come here to commit crimes and deal drugs with the thousands of euros they get by abusing our social services" argument made by certain populistic political parties. Not saying our social security network isn't flawed, but refugees don't make 6000 euros a month with it.

My parents are pretty damn stealthy about their racism, but sometimes it bubbles to the surface and it's ugly. My mother seems to have a particular gripe with Romanians -- she is of the opinion that they are all thieves.

Cripes.
Well, half of them are gypsies.
Your "explanation" is just further racism.

OT: A Chinese takeaway arrived early the other night and so my step-Dad used a rather specific insult to illustrate that he wasn't ready to eat yet.

Something to do with eyes and the colour yellow I believe. Can't say I've heard him come out with something like that before but it was embarrassing as fuck (even though he didn't say it to the guy's face).
Neither "Romanian" nor "Gypsy" is a race. One in a nationality, and the other is a cultural category. It's not "racist" it's prejudiced.

Also, I don't really care about you calling me racist, since my first post was me admitting that I am. I have no illusions about myself.
A race of people is a people connected by a close, common heritage. Romany gypsies fit the bill.

And I'll take it that you're a racist out of spite then, because no one admits to having moronic prejudices and then just runs with them anyway.

My grandpa is pretty racist. He disapproved of me learning Japanese at school because Japanese soldiers killed his grandmother. He doesn't like that I have friends who are Caucasian because they'll apparently never understand my background and culture. I usually don't listen to a word he says, but he gets frustrating when he just goes on and on about this kind of thing, and yet doesn't go out and meet people to prove himself wrong.

Lots. Many. A good chunk of my family is racist to one group or another. I'd rather not say who but when they start spewing diarrhea from their mouths I quickly leave the room. I have tried many times to convince them otherwise but since I lack in the art of debate I often just reinforce their point of view. Example:

*** - "I hate these Ay-rabs. They come here and go on welfare and raise 18 kids and do nothing for society."
Me - "There are plenty of Arabic people who work and aren't on welfare-"
*** - "You mean the ones that are taking our jobs?"
Me - "..."

true, but I think it has more to do with the level of social and economical development of a person (or group) then faith or nationality. But for the moment we can assume Moroccans and people from the Antilles are in % more involved in crime than any other group out here (in the Netherlands...and I am gonna bed your ass that counts for France too)

OT: no, no racists here. actually I work with as many different cultures as I have fingers (and I have them all).
