Well I came in here not having a clue who they were or why I should care. After reading it?... Good on them, I hope anon drives them to the ground. However, if they are this big and anon do drive them into the ground... Won't that have negative effects on the farmbelt? I mean, I'm pretty sure that these farmers go to these dicks because they don't have much other choice.
Using natural seeds is practically a form of protest now-a-days. If all farmers went back to the old ways Monsanto wouldn't be able to sue them all and Monsanto would probably go out of business.
Except that they'd still operate their overseas market. What happens to developing nations using Monsanto seeds? They either buy from them or starve, because nobody else is offering anything for them. They can't afford to leave Monsanto, and the alternative is starvation. The company pretty much has them in a choke hold.

Monsanto is just another business. They have never been found guilty of anything. Cracking their site is just as wrong as cracking any site.

Wow, that seems like a pretty harsh situation. Because even if someone does manage to bring them down, the developing nations that are dependent on these fellows will be in quite a lot of trouble.

Legal =/= Moral. I hadn't even heard of them up until reading this thread, and I've looked into it more, and I can't find myself supporting Monsanto. At all.

I can hazard a guess why they can operate in this way. Lobbying.

What is "wrong" is completely arbitrary.

What Monsanto does is far worse than anything Anon has done.

Was it "wrong" for African Americans to do sit-ins at white only diners? It was against the law afterall.

Monsanto "lost" the lawsuit, and have filed more on farmers who just get screwed because that crap grows damn near anywhere.
So they lost a test case but continue to spend money pursuing farmers anytime an unauthorized corn cob grows? They must keep their legal department busy. My apologies if I'm in error. I was working from memory of some studies I read several years ago.

This might be of interest to you by the way. Article from the National Health Federation detailing the cases against Monsanto.

Well according to a study 1/5 of humans genes is patented....

Which I find to be very stupid and I do not understand how you can be able to patent human genes..

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/10/1013_051013_gene_patent.html

"The top patent assignee is Incyte, a Palo Alto, California-based drug company whose patents cover 2,000 human genes."
i may rage.

This is why I'm happy Anonymous exists. For all the questionable things they may have done they are able and willing to do the things legitimate organizations simply will not.

(Rant)

Are hackers just schizophrenic or what? They're either wrecking the PSN or taking down the sites of evil corporations. Are you Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader, because you can't be fucking both. I'd prefer it if they chose Luke Skywalker.
You have to remember that there are different groups of hackers. aparantly Anonamous wasn't the ones who took down PSN and I'm inclined to believe them.

As for LulSec, stop screwing over people because you think it's fun and calling it justice and do some -real- good for once in your miserable little lives. Anonamous is being a perfect roll model for hackers in this situation. Thumbs up for them!

My respect for Anonymous has increased exponentially. I hope they focus on this, and destroy these fuckers. It's difficult to think of a more despicable corporation.

Holy shit... these people need to get taken down, not Sony! Why give Sony so much shit and not these guys?

Wow well done they brought down a poxy website, who cares?

Really Monsanto doesn't need that website to do buisness the reason why taking down PSN was so damaging was because Sony relied heavily on that service. Now if they hacked Monsanto's servers and actually did some digging, you know gain some dirt on them. Superficial protests don't do squat against the real badguys.

Anonymous can be anyone, so all there needs to be are people who want to do the right thing and Anon immediately becomes good. If only I was more computer savy I'd be in lockstep right next to them.

For a second I thought some crazy person was calling GE crop manufacturers monstrous.
But it seems yes, Monsanto does commit shady business practices.

Too bad LulzSec is too busy Lulzing to actually use that talent for something good.
You do know that the Anon that people think is Anon as touched in a recent episode of Extra Credits IS NOT anon. Anyone can take Anon as their name but you need to remember their core IDEALS. This company fortunately falls under one of their ideals but most of them lately have not.

I know that it's not necessarily Anon, but they chose to associate themselves with Anon and did something good.
The main point though wasn't whether or not Anonymous did this, but that LulzSec certainly did not do this. Unfortunately LulzSec will probably continue to hack anything that inconveniences their only would-be supporters until they are caught, rather than doing something even as minorly helpful to the world as hacking a corrupt corporation.

Sigh, it seems that every day good ol' George was right on the money. Indeed, they do have us by the balls.

how do we get out of this stranglehold? We have artifically raised the populations of third world countries this way. Taking down Monsanto (even if that's possible) could be disasterous.

Its a smart move on their part I'll give them that though. I take my hat off to them for it. Though I don't know if its unintentional. Reminds me of the ending to a really good comic that I want mention in case of spoiling it but I imagine peeps will know what I'm talking about.

As for how they'd do it... no idea. Makes taking them down a much more complicated moral dilemma.

Its not something GOOD though. Its taking down their site. Their site will have 0 repercussions with their business. Lulzsec is more of a Greyhat that Anon USED to be than the Black Hat that they have become.
