I am proud.
And I believe that Anonymous will beat, or at least, survive all governments.
Maybe not corporations.
But remember, the white hats are the hackers that couldn't escape law enforcement.
The truly good ones will always be out there.

Unfortunately from a lawful good perspective, this means that those arrested usually aren't the real perpetrators. The kids that have been arrested are pawns.
The people in Anonymous who do the hacking use the mass Anonymous population as a cover up and the kid in the basement fucking around is the one who's going to get a knock on their door/SWAT-style raided.

This will accomplish absolutely nothing.

When will you internet people learn? Just because you temporarily shut down someone's website doesn't mean anything in the real world.

You've done NOTHING!!!

In my opinion, taking down their website will do nothing. Monsanto didnt get as powerful as they are because of a website.
Take a good look at this thread. Roughly half the posts are people asking who/what Monsanto are and why they should care, and the other half (ok, a bit less since there's posts like yours and mine) are people explaining exactly why they should care, why they need to care. That's what Anonymous has done with this, they've raised awareness of Monsanto's shitty behaviour. People who previously had no opinion either way are now getting angry at this, and while it may be a statistically insignificant number of people, it's still more than there were a few days ago, and is one more tiny step to stopping this kind of behaviour. It might not be much, but a lot of "not much" can eventually add up to a whole lot.
Amen, from here we go to our other favorite forums and talk about it, post it on your Facebook, talk about it with your real life friends. Every time someone learns about something important it's another drop in the pond that will create a ripple effect reaching new ears. Something will eventually happen.

Wow I have known about Mosanto for a few years now and honestly I do believe they are a horrible company for its buisness practices. Yes I know its what buisnesses do and such but damn I dont agree with someone owning the rights to genetic codes.

With Anon and me its hit and miss. At times I support them whole heartidly other times I get annoyed with them. This is a case of the former. Im glad that they have brought some awareness to this subject

You live under the illusion of democracy. You have no influence whatsoever over which corrupt bastard rules you. Not unless you have billions falling out of your asshole, or you can mobilize hundreds of thousands to do your bidding. Anonymous works outside your system because it's the only remaining avenue for effecting change. And they remain anonymous because the status quo will not shrink at violence to stop them.

We don't have choice because the choices are controlled. Most people think emotionally and socially and thus do not realize it. I would add something that if you can mobilize masses of people to do your bidding the powers that be will pay you off handsomely to tame those masses back into the accepted range of thought. We just saw a taming happen with the so called "Tea Party" movement, although mostly through infiltrators and bandwagon riders from the republican party.

It's great that a company with such poor practices get attacked, especially Anonymous. What's even worse than a company like this still existing? They used to sponsor a ride at Disneyland. I'm not kidding.

Yay! If you are going to fuck up the environment and steal from farmers, you aren't allowed to have a web site that makes you look like an environmentalist charity.

I'm hearing this statement a lot, but it does help. Things that anon does brings attention to the public eye. Just look at all the people that didn't know what Monsanto was before this, and are now aware of who they are and what they do. Anybody who takes any kind of interest in Anon is now aware of the company and why it deserves to be attack, from there all those who know can avoid they're products such as "Round Up".

I don't think our generation's youngsters are to be part of what Anonymous really is. People who do things to "liberate" scandals and secret dirt are extremely skilled that they're able to even get through supposedly impenetrable government cybersecurity. You don't learn those things in just a year or two. These people probably have high IQ as well and they're using their talents to get rid of corrupt government people or businesses who are screwing people over just because they have connections with someone in the government.

Typical kids these days won't even care if the products they're buying from certain companies are screwing them over by removing one feature every "upgrade" and selling that lost feature as a "NEW EXTRA" feature in the next iteration of the product. Kids also wouldn't care who our government officials are because they're busy jacking off to some new slutty pop star or dildoing to some Jersey Shore guy.

I'd guess that real Anonymous members (or those who actually DO stuff to help their cause) are people around 35 years old or older. They are highly educated, most of them are probably engineers or computer scientists. Some of them are probably working in the tech industry right now or are in the government itself. The reason why they joined or opted to work with Anonymous was probably because they witnessed corruption themselves in their workplace. They probably understand that even if they talk to the media alone, nothing would be made out of the issue because the corporation or the government can simply say "It's Classified" and cover it up somehow. It also puts their personal lives and family at risk. Some of the members are probably former activists or soldiers as well. Most "members" are probably from the United States because most of the issues they tackle are from this country. One of their best assets is their ability to keep secret identities. They probably don't know each other and only work on a "per assignment" basis. In this case, success in their mission is determined by how many people or "members" actually work towards a certain goal. This type of assignment work lets them remain unknown to each other, therefore lessening the chance of one snitching on the others. They also say there's really no leader. They probably determine what issues to tackle by having some meetings where everyone is equal and they discuss why it is important to do something about the subject. After that, whoever believes in the cause will do the suggested "assignment", while those who don't simply don't have to do anything. I bet they're also Escapists here.

As of now, I don't think Anonymous is a terrorist group (or individual terrorists). They don't blow up innocent people or wreck businesses just for the sake of a few laughs. They just cause a scene from time to time to drive attention to a certain group or person so that regular folks would start thinking more instead of just absorbing every lie they get fed. To me, they are like the activists from the 70s and 80s in various countries of the world who did demonstrations on the streets. This time, it's just being done online, and with better skill to produce results.

To Anonymous, you've got the skill, talent, and resources. I hope you continue doing what regular people can't. Just don't become corrupt like the officials you're trying to expose! Maybe one day, even though we'll never know your names, you'll all be regarded as heroes by your positive actions!

So, to sort of take the side of Monsanto for a moment...

How does a company that is in the business of selling "specialized" seeds stay in business if it's simply "One and done", allowing farmers to replant their crops without needing to go back to the parent company for seeds? If you don't have a returning consumer base, you don't have a business.
Thing is, Monsanto has repeatedly demonstrated they just don't give a fuck about the welfare of said consumers, or even the repercussions of their actions, which impact the environment, public health, and the economy in more and more devastating ways as their stranglehold on agriculture continues. They just want money. If you find yourself in a business where increasing your profit margin requires you to reject you basic humanity, you're not in a business that deserves to exist. Period. Capitalism is only justifiable if it furthers human progress, if the products being marketed, the products that can be exchanged for capital, are actually worth what it costs to make them. Right now it's just looking more and more like the addiction of madmen, making billions by filling the world with cheap, even harmful shit, only to realize too late that all that money is now worthless in a world filled with meaningless, faulty commodities. Show me a profitable publicly traded corporation that doesn't engage in dirty dealings, doesn't compromise their ethics in some fundamental way in order to increase profits, and maybe I'll start to give a shit about how these scumfucks are supposed to make money.

People keep thinking Anon is made up of teenagers in their mom's basement. Just because those kids told you they are part of Anon of XBL, doesn't mean they are people. You were just dumb enough to believe them.

You can't have an organization like this without some knowledge and skill. Flame them all you want but they've hit major targets and done some major damage. These aren't kids.

Way to generalize my entire fucking generation. I appreciate it. I'm 17. I know lots of brilliant people in my age group. Shitty pop music and television shows like Jersey shore get pushed on us by corporations. We don't really have any choice in the matter. But we try our best, we listen to independent music and get our tv off of the internet, which has no effect on ratings, so most shows that are actually popular among my demographic don't last very long. We get told every day we're miserable failures of human beings because our culture is dying out, when in fact it's Generation X that's creating all of this shit. Culture is dying because culture has become a commodity, just like everything else. Terrible movies make money because only terrible movies are being released anymore. So don't blame today's youth for your problems. I have no doubt that Anonymous is almost universally young, the few arrests that have been made have been of teenagers and people in their early twenties.

Your old road is rapidly aging. Get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand.

Are hackers just schizophrenic or what? They're either wrecking the PSN or taking down the sites of evil corporations. Are you Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader, because you can't be fucking both. I'd prefer it if they chose Luke Skywalker.
[HEADING=1]Objection![/HEADING]

I believe they've already proven that they can be fucking both XD

And that makes it so much more fun! Besides Hackers are already on the Anti-Hero/Anti-Villain line so you can't really compare them to the clear cut hero/villain relationship that Star Wars had going on

So from what I gather, that company went through the effort of making a pesticide resistant plants, and now folks complain they have to pay the company to use it? That doesn't exactly strike me as wrong.

If they don't want to pay the user fees they shouldn't use those strains. Now I could see it being argued that after x amount of time, their patent runs out and anyone can use it. But isn't that already covered under patent law?

I just want to say that just because something is legal doesn't mean it is right. Like say if they legalized the use of cocaine just because you can do it doesn't mean you should. These bastards are a good example of that and I hope their company crashes and burns.

Remember Darth Vader killed the Emperor.
