Are hackers just schizophrenic or what? They're either wrecking the PSN or taking down the sites of evil corporations. Are you Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader, because you can't be fucking both. I'd prefer it if they chose Luke Skywalker.
Remember Darth Vader killed the Emperor.
Nicely played, sir.

Good. Fuck Monsanto. Bastards can go to hell. So can the government for tolerating this shit.
But isn't the government the same thing as hell?

On topic: Woot! Go anon! I don't care much about Monsanto, but it's nice to see some bastards get their comeuppance.

on a somewhat related topic, apparently Monsanto accedentally created a whole new lifeform http://my.firedoglake.com/tucsonrobert1/2011/06/10/new-life-form-unwittingly-created-by-monsanto-unleashed-a-follow-up/

an unamed pathogen that lives in GMO food from Monsanto but kills natural plants and steralizes animals... even if it was by accident, it sorta seems to be bad for Monsanto's "competition". Next thing you know, Monsanto will be breeding animals that can survive the pathogen but can't reproduce...

While I don't support the methods of Monsanto or the laws that have allowed them to prosper...what Anonymous is doing is still completely wrong. I hope anonymous are punished appropriately for these acts.

Say what you will about the perpetrators, and A-nonymous is nothing if not a mixed bag, but I'll be losing somewhere between zero and fuckall hours of sleep over this one.

I can and will go further, it's rather nice to see a money-flushed agricultural concern have their cages rattled, just a a bit.

So from what I gather, that company went through the effort of making a pesticide resistant plants, and now folks complain they have to pay the company to use it? That doesn't exactly strike me as wrong.

If they don't want to pay the user fees they shouldn't use those strains. Now I could see it being argued that after x amount of time, their patent runs out and anyone can use it. But isn't that already covered under patent law?
Good point, except for two things. First, farmers are indeed forced to used those strains. See above where wind-borne Monsanto seeds entered a farmer's field and grew. Thus he was growing Monsanto plants without choice. And then he got sued.

The second bit is that Monsanto seed + Monsanto weedkiller is currently the cheapest way to grow crops. Anyone familiar with the Nash equilibrium knows that in an competitive environment, you must be cheap or fail. So many are choosing between Monsanto or bankruptcy.

The good news, as you point out, is that Monsanto is on a time limit and only has so many years before the generics muscle in and push them out. They certainly won't bother with Monsanto's monopolistic practices because they won't have a monopoly.

The key problem here is that combination of Cheap Weedkiller + Resistant Seeds is in the hands of one company. If one or the other patent had expired or if the combination wasn't so cost-effective, this wouldn't be a big deal.

It's because they aren't here to be "good" or "bad". They're here to point out the huge gaping hole in internet security [And maybe not even (purposely) that... but that's what they're doing whether they like it or not]. They don't particularly care if it's good or bad or if there is any moral taste to the matter. That's not the point; it's for the lulz.

[Disclaimer: I do not in any way stand for or can speak for "anon" or the such. But, it seems like their attacks are not discriminatory, and as such I think this observation holds at least some truth.]

As much as I may hate what Monsanto does, I find it hard to justify what this group is doing.

I wish this would all just stop.
I personally can't justify what Monsanto is doing either. We have to do something.

while i understand that what monsanto is just doing business the entire thing about them being allowed to send inspectors to someone else's farm. And then being able to sue that poor farmer if some of monstanto's corn is found there (like blow by the wind) is compleatly awful and seriously shady. Im very disapointed in our goverment for letting them do this
