This guy needs more exposure:

Be sure to look at his other songs, especially 'Get Better'. The pair are very good imo.

I also agree with Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip, it's a shame that they aren't as big as they should be, the first album in particular is incredible!

Most excellent dear sir, although I do fear that it is somewhat lacking in references to the true gentleman's game.

Eh.

Eminem I can appreciate as someone who can write stuff that sounds right and is funny, it takes some talent to do that. Musically there's nothing there other than the rhythm and to some extent I guess the beat, but there are a couple of basic templates that generally get repeated in the regard.

Besides him, Rage Against the Machine have some rap / hip hop roots stuff going on in some songs. And they're also quite funky, powerful, and are more multifaceted than something like the Run DMC thing I'm listening to.

Man, I can't believe I"m the first person to bring up MF DOOM and his amazing collaborations.

DangerDoom: DOOM with one of the best hip-hop DJs working today, the incomparable Danger Mouse.

Madvillian: DOOM + Madlib

While she has only ever done one song that could be considered rap (Most of the time she is industrial.) It is also the only rap song I have ever thoroughly enjoyed.

The Gorillaz or Linkin Park have rap songs that are pretty cool.

Most Flobots songs have excellent wordplay and rythym. I especially like the Fight With Tools album.

Some might find them a bit preachy, but hey, at least they care about something.

It doesn't hurt that its damn good music, as well.

I've already seen Aesop Rock's name thrown around, and I have to agree wholeheartedly. He's awesome.

Otherwise, Jurassic 5 does some good stuff (and the phenomenal Cut Chemist was one of their producers for a while), Blackalicious can be good, if occasionally a tad cheesy.

Alright, that sentence was going to get really long, really fast, so I'll just make a list:

Aesop Rock
Jurassic 5
Blackalicious
Atmosphere
MF Doom (check out the album released as Danger Doom--it features Danger Mouse being awesome).

DJ Signify has a few songs featuring Buck65 which are really, really good. It's probably not what you're looking for, but I absolutely love the song Winters Going.

Other than that, The Streets are definitely not about violence and pimping, but it's a bit silly and hard to take seriously sometimes. I'll probably come up with more sooner or later.
