In every discussion, article, newsitem, .. you hear, read or see there seems to be this general consensus that raping someone is the single worst act somebody can do. While it's not hard to understand that rape is something extremely unpleasant and painful I don't understand why it's so much worse than kicking somebody in the face so hard he needs reconstructive surgery.

Also, there seem's to be a guilt part associated with rape, women that have been raped feel that it's there fault somehow is something you hear alot. I don't really get this either: if somebody raped/beat me I would be furious even if I DID provoke that person.

This is even more so when it happens to a minor. Yes ofcourse childrape is horrible, even worse that regular rape, I'm not saying it's not horrible (have to be careful on online forums). But a drunk parent that beats his/her child into the hospital is 'a bad parent' while a parent that sexualy abuses his/her daughter/son is evil-wise the equivalent of a Hitler/Stalin/Ted Bundy-mutation, even though both parents seriously psychologicly and physicly damage their child.

Maybe I just can't understand this for some reason (I'm not a woman, I'm emotionaly dead, I'm a mysogynist, I'm a rapist, ..) but it seems to me like rape is a crime that gets alot more of undeserved emotional response.

Because in America, sex is illegal to even mention, whereas blood guts and gore is just somewhat frowned upon.

Western society is one which glorifies killing. It's practically in every game, novel, comic, film, or TV show that can be accessed by the public. We are even taught that killing is okay depending on which situation we're in. Games like Hitman and Assassin's Creed are good examples of this ideology, where the player character is given orders to eliminate marks responsible for criminal acts but cannot be reached by the long arm of the law.

Rape is a completely different story, however. Rape does not benefit anyone except for the person committing the act. The act alone leaves the victim scarred for life, if not physically then mentally. And if a woman become pregnant and goes through with raising the child, she'll be constantly reminded of her attacker's face. Rape breaks family and social order apart, and is a crime that should be punishable by castration, if not death. There's not even a slightest shred of good that comes out of the act. I'm not saying that killing is any better than rape, but there are certain situations where the former is acceptable while the latter never is.

It's like making someone choke to death on cake: you take something so pleasing, so beautiful, and so pure, and you twist it to serve a sick purpose.

No matter what anyone says, Murder is always worse than rape, why?

No amount of therapy/support can help a murder victim, because they are Dead, while as a rape victim can recover from the ordeal through therapy and the right support from their loved ones. (i know, 2 of my best female friends were raped in their teen years.)

I dunno... I view rape as a kind of torture, and I always consider torture worse than murder. You can end someone's life and their pain is over with, but with rape/torture/other heinous acts, it's an enduring pain that often cannot be healed.

Also, I have never in my life heard an abusive, violent parent referred to simply as "bad". That'd the an exceptional understatement.

Now a bigger question arises:

Pun intended?

Because broken bones heal relatively quickly - psychological damage is slightly less inclined to go away.

For me, personally, it's just that I don't have any moral problem with murder.
I think you and Saren would get along, according to his two rules on the topic of killing.

Well, you're totally off-base.
Rape is worse than murder.
The rapists should all be hung, drawn, and quartered.

Also, in the future, please use the search button.

I would say that the worst thing someone can do is murder another Human Being.

A lot of what defines rape depends on the culture, in Japan it's fairly common (or so the news would lead me to believe). While in the middle east it's always the woman's fault, which makes me sick to think about how messed up these cultures are.

Murder is a physical assault the dead don't feel pain, or humiliation.
Rape victims are forever haunted by what happened to them, it's a psychological assault.

I'm all for the harshest punishments imaginable for rapists.

Because you can justify killing someone. You can never justify raping them.

To commit murder, you might simply believe that your life is in danger, you might be trying to protect someone, etc. There are a whole range of plausible, excusable motives for murder. Killing can be a social good - removing our enemies is something we all wish, and occasionally need to do to survive.

Try and justify rape.

I'd rather be murdered than raped (not that it's much of a choice) because I don't think I could handle the aftermath of a rape, while if I'd been killed it would be the end and that way I wouldn't have to suffer anymore. I also think that rape is worse because, while there's been times in my life where I've felt a violent urge and silently wished for people to die and that there are so many people I think deserve a quick (though not necessarily painless) death, I've never thought that somebody should go through the horror of being raped.
I might also think this because of my feelings that sex is something sweet and pure (yes, I KNOW I'm old-fashioned) and should be cherished, while rape completly corrupts that image.
