So I was on twitter wasting my time and then a though "maybe I can tell RARE a great idea."
So I told them i have an idea.... Battletoads, killer instinct, Jet Force Gemini, just that.
So what I meant was that it should be great for us if those games make a comeback or something.

They answer me this: "an extremely specific idea. Kinect Ghoulies Corps Racing Zero."

So the characters of those games are coming to a KINECT RACING GAMES?

What is happening to RARE?

Rare is Microsoft's Kinect monkey now. They have no free will, they have to make Wii-style shovel ware to appeal to the casual audience.

Dude, they're totally trolling you. I've followed their twitter for a long time, they do that...

Not to say that there's nothing wrong with Rare's games today, though. Microsoft pretty much did make them their kinect *****. I think that's wrong and I'm one of the few who had actually enjoyed a good number of their titles post-N64.

My reaction to the title.

After reading what you posted.

I just want Banjoo-Kazooie 3. Is that so much to ask for?

I haven't played any post N64 Rare game except for Banjo Kazooie 3 (Which was alright I guess, never played 1/2). Didn't play any N64 games come to think of it either, cept GoldenEye. I love the Donkey Kong Country games though. They were awesome.

This.

Rule of thumb, if rare brings up Ghoulies its a joke. They feel really bad about making that game and tell jokes to try and ease the pain of it.

Oh Rare... How I miss you and your Perfect Dark awesomeness...

On a semi-related note: Many of the people from Rare formed the company that makes the Time Splitters game, which is why multi-player on there is about as awesome as you can get.

Tiss a sad existence for that game, but it must be done.

Its not that rare is bad now. Its just they arent nearly as good as they once were. Viva Pinata is a great game honestly, as well as banjo nuts and bolts. Sure I'd rather regular banjo, but it was still a good game. Kameo is actually fun and is decent today for being a launch title, same for Perfect Dark. And now they are working on kinect. Right now they have just done Kinect Sports which is just a mini game collection. But at least its very well done, and responsive. But I still have hopes for a new perfect dark, kameo, banjo, and a new ip.

Rare are doing the exact same thing they've been doing forever - jumping on a bandwagon.

Don't believe me? In the eighties when everyone was making totally unfair platformers, they made Battletoads. In the early 90's when it was all animal platformers, they made Donkey Kong Country. In the mid 90's when everyone was talking about fighters, they made Killer Instinct. Late 90's, 3d platformers and shooters, Banjo Kazooie, DK64 and Conker, and Goldeneye and Perfect Dark respectively. Now? They're making motion control games.
Yeah but rare was the best at it, oh yeah and you forgot this. When everyone was making crappy movie tie in games for the NES Rare made them also.

Golden Eye was an amazing game, and Perfect Dark has one of the best multiplayer settings I have ever seen. It's a little dated as far as graphics go, but no one else seems to even want offline multiplayer. At least not in the way that Rare does it.

Sure, Rare has never exactly been original. Still, that doesn't stop Battletoads, Donkey Kong 64, the Banjo Kazooie series, Goldeneye, Conker and Perfect Dark from being amazing games.

I had my hopes up as soon as I read the title, and now I has a sad. I've been wanting something new from them that goes back to their roots, like an actual Banjo Kazooie 3 instead of Nuts and Bolts or the re-release of the first 2 on the XBLA. Seriously, Rare was one of my favorite developers back in the day, and I still play their N64 games a lot(just beat DK64 for like the 10th time, 101% it for like the 4th time). If I still had my 360 I'd still be playing Viva Pinata too. Say what you want, but that game is addicting as hell, it's like Animal Crossing with more adorable and kids who scream in joy when you commit Pinata genocide.

My hopes actually weren't very high when I saw the title of this thread: Rare has been a back-burning, no-budget, nothing studio since the Xbox gained the number 360. Viva Pinata wasn't much of a game but it was great for achievements. Before that Rare had Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Donkey Kong 64 (the last title with King K. Rool)

I was hoping someone at Microsoft got high and green-lit a new Killer Instinct. Not surprised that hasn't happened but you know...you can only deny the devil those snow-cones for so long.

edit: woah, woah, woah, Rare made the latest Battletoads titles?! Well if Wikipedia is to be believed. Dammit Microsoft, if you're not going to make those games sell the rights to someone who will.

Battletoads
Killer Instinct
Perfect Dark
Conker
Grabbed by the Ghoulies

*opens envelope* Name several video game franchises people would throw their money at in a heart beat if it were to return with a current-day release. (no, not port you silly person. Remakes are acceptable though I suppose)

I don't deny that. What I'm saying is that the people who say "Microsoft are forcing Rare to be unoriginal" are being unfair. I mean, I'm no fan of Microsoft at all, believe me, but you can't really blame it all on them.

The problem with Rare is not what they're making, but how they're making it. If Rare were back to its old standards, who knows, they ,might make a Kinect game actually worth playing.
All I want is Banjo Kazui 3 (not a tragic game like nuts and bolts, a real platformer with lots of surprises, the good stuff you know) is that so much to ask :(.
