If the cow is grass-fed and healthy, then it is perfectly fine to drink their milk raw. People that are lactose-intolerant may actually drink raw milk for it possesses helpful bacteria that aid in digestion. These bacteria are destroyed in the homogenization or pasteurization process. The reason for the ban on raw milk was due to historical reasons.

People found out it is possible to drink a cow's milk pasteurized regardless of its health. They decided to keep cows stuffed up in a barn and pasteurize the milk in order to mass produce it. However, if one were to drink the milk raw from an unhealthy cow, that does not graze on grass, then they would obviously become sick.

Raw ORGANIC milk also possesses CLA.

CLA, short for conjugated linoleic acid and abundant in milk from grass-fed cows, is a heavily studied, polyunsaturated Omega-6 fatty acid with promising health benefits (33). It certainly does wonders for rodents, judging by the hundreds of journal articles I've come across! (34) There's serious money behind CLA, so it's a sure bet there's something to it.

CLA is included in a human woman's breast milk and it possesses powerful nutrition properties.

If you are an athlete, I urge you to consider seeking out an organic farm that sells raw milk. And, as previously stated, drinking raw milk from a Mayfield cow would kill you.

To quote my brother, "You know how there's 1% and 2% milk? This is like 200%."

I think the main problem is that it doesn't keep as long, and transportation would be an issue.

Raw milk sours much quicker, but it is still edible. You can actually make some great Kefir from it after it sours...

Pasteurized or homogenized milk start tasting like trash and have a smaller shelf life.

Sounds good but i don't live near a farm so if i wanna get some good healthy style milk I'll go ask my aunt who shops at an all-organic store because of her millions of allergies.

Only problem... I prefer it skimmed. (Yes, I know I'm a freak.)

Can you skim the fat without pasteurizing it?

Raw milk is actually banned in some states. I believe a couple of states recently made it legal however. The FDA is against raw milk being legalized because it would put the dairy industries in jeopardy. It is much more profitable to keep cows stuck up in barns and pasteurize their unhealthy milk to make it edible. It's still unhealthy but edible.

However, having cows graze and healthy... it's a waste to pasteurize their milk, for it destroys a lot of helpful bacteria, CLA, and other good nutrients.

Separation is another issue in the commercial selling of raw milk. It naturally separates into cream and milk, which, while awesome for pancakes, is unsightly annd unfamiliar for the regular buyer.

Also, many countries have regulations on the production, packaging and selling of milk, due to its' propensity to make humans sick if not properly produced and delivered.

Yes, raw milk does taste good (some friends of mine had a farm and would give us the excess from their cows, so I know from experience), but I would not drink raw milk from an unknown source ever. Pasteurisation was invented for a purpose, and it has saved countless lives.

Yes, you can. The fat tends to rise to the top, so you may take the sort of take it off. I haven't tried though. I actually stopped drinking 2 years ago after I stopped playing sports. This is important information for athlete who take their sports seriously.

I would also recommend...

1. grass-fed beef = has a good ratio of omega 6 and omega 3 fats
2. organic wheat = the most important thing to get organic; it does not have as many preservatives
3. raw milk = for the reasons outlined above

It becomes too expensive to eat fruits and vegetables organic. Granted, this may be beneficial, but the other ones are far more important.

TRUE. If you do not know the source of the raw milk, then do not, on any circumstances, drink it. However, if you know the cow was healthy and grazing well, then drink the raw milk.

Pasteurization has made mass production easier at the expense of many health benefits.

So lets see... I am to drink raw milk which if it is good then I get a slightly healthier drink, if it is not good then I could die...
Yeah... fuck raw milk. I will take my nice, safe milk that may be less healthy but at least won't kill me.
If you personally know the farmer, and if and only if he treats his cows well, then drink the raw milk. There are some minimal harmful effects to pasteurized dairy also (I will provide sources later), but raw milk from an unhealthy would severely harm you. Granted, as I have emphasized, if the cow is grass-fed and healthy, it's actually beneficial.

Milk in general grosses me out, can't stand the smell or the taste. I'll stick to soy milk juice.

I may give more empirical sources and studies to prove what I'm saying is true.

I have no issue if you enjoy the taste more, but saying one is better than the other is an objective claim... In this case, you'd be wrong.

Granted, I respect your view if you simply want an economical means to purchase milk and etc. It's just, I'm claiming one is more healthy than the other, and this has been proven.

Yeah but come on. Cost / benefit ratio, its just not even worth the risk and is better to drink pasteurised. Plus theres minimal harmful effects to breathing oxygen and exposing yourself to sunlight...
Depends on your goals. If you're an athlete, then it would definitely help.
