I like it, it's the example of how to review things, no pulled punches, every weak spot hit, the Cassius clay of game reviews.

I have been watching ZP from almost the begining and I still watch it religiously, it's kept me sane through a year of soul crushing unemployment.

They used to be much better. Now it's trying to be too much of a real review. It was funnier when he would say ridiculous things and not try to be serious.

I remember watching it for the first time with my friend, it was the super smash bros brawl review, I was a fanboy at the time and when I watched it I laughed so hard I had to pause it, step outside, splash my face with water and then resume. I don't have the same reaction anymore since I've gotten use to the style.

I like the fact that Yathzee is immune to fanboyism bullshit. He can look past favour and see games like MGS4, SSBB, and Halo for what they really are.

You do kind of get used to it, but I think he's been on the upswing humorwise ever since the Duke Nukem Forever "review". Call of Juarez was especially funny as well. I don't laugh as hard as I used to, but that's because I've gotten used to him I think, and I still find most of his reviews very funny. As for my friends, all of my friends that I've shown ZP like it, but some laugh more than others. And of course some people aren't going to like it, its just that most of the people I know do. So to each his own, but I have been a weekly viewer since the Orange Box review, and I doubt that's going to change anytime soon :)

Is this really a big enough deal to make a thread about it? Some people don't like ZP, thats the way it is. Yahtzee doesn't give a shit, so why would anyone else?

I cant believe how many people are fixated on the idea that ZP is "going downhill" are there actually weirdos who didn't find this dialogue to be funny;
"Call of....JAUREZ!!! has 2 main characters, Thomas and Gerald, when you pick Thomas you move faster and shoot more accurately, when you pick Gerald you can pause, restart the game and PICK THOMAS, stupid!" Thats the kind of thing that makes him stand out from other reviewers.
It's mostly the law of diminishing returns rather than the series "going downhill." When his style was fresh and new, the shock comedy and strange comparisons were funny because they were somewhat unexpected. It's the surprise of not being able to guess what word is going to follow the next that makes ZP funny, along with the simple but effective images.

However, because Yhatzee has now done 100 videos, some of that freshness is gone. We expect him to say things like the above quote now, and though it's funny, you don't get as big a reaction.

I loved it when I first saw it, and I don't think it's going downhill at all. A couple of my friends like it as much as I do, but when I show it to others the response is almost always "That guy talks too fast."

IMO, after Halo Wars, they weren't all that funny. Then, Nuke Nukem and E3 helped ZP return to form. After E3 however, they haven't been that great. I like the older ones better anyway. Maybe they aren't that funny anymore because he's suffering from burnout. He has beeen doing this for 100 straight weeks now after all. Eh, I still like ZP, just not as much.

I loved ZP when I fist saw it, I first found it on Youtube and followed him to here, where I've been watching ever since.
I have noticed though, that Yahtzee has slowed down. Watch one of his first vids and then a more recent one, you really notice the difference.
Though despite this, I still think he's hilarious and very, very brave to say some of the stuff he does.

Its like fruitcake. You cant eat (watch) it all the time. Once a week or two weeks and it will keep you grinning.

Yeah, personally I don't have the feeling ZP is going downhill (yet). Sure it varies every week..but that's only natural. I am here at Escapist because of ZP in the first place..so it has to become really really bad (a streak of 3 full movies of irritation at the lack of humour/ style) for me to stop watching..and still I would probably be tempted to check it after a while just to see if he's made a comeback.

When I first showed ZP to a friend..he missed a lot of jokes..cuz his English sucks and he has a mild form of ADD.

Which has led me to conclude that for anyone to truly appreciate ZP their proficiency at the English language needs to be decent. And they must have the "ability" to focus/ pay attention.

90% of the people I show his videos to I only do so to shut them up about their favourite games. Naturally the response is rarelt positive.

Everyone I know thinks it's funny except my fiancé who is a gamer. She however is oddly prejudiced. She can't watch anything with too many English accents that is also a comedy? it drives her bonkers, Monty Python and snatch are two examples I can think of right off. So she finds Yahtzee?s accent and voice to be grating. If I retell a joke to her she usually finds it funny.
This probably has something to do with her being French.

The first videos made me laugh my ass off. The latest ones haven't been as funny as the first, but I still get the occasional chuckle from them.

I haven't really been offended by any of the videos yet; maybe it's because I'm too busy enjoying them.
