This thread is dedicated to ANYONE and everyone, whom the poster feels is entitled to a firm two fingered salute at their computer screen. Basically you pick one individual who you feel deserves to noted, had an interesting life, and deserves recognition for their awesome deeds.

I will go first in choosing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartholomew_Roberts

AKA: Black Bart the Pirate

His tale inspires us all.

....name someone you think was "cool" in other words.

To some degree, let's include those who are lesser known and perhaps eluded throughout history...

Of course each to his own, but that was the original thought I was expressing: Men who weren't a part of everyday mold of thought.

Voytek the Soldier Bear

"He liked a cigarette, he liked a bottle of beer - he drank a bottle of beer like any man."
http://www.badassoftheweek.com/voytek.html

Now this is someone(person/thing/BEAR) who deserves a salute, or bow. Grovel you interweb passengers to a Hero of History.

I think this should deserve a thread of it's own.

Generalfeldmarschall Yorck von Wartenberg

Most people have never heard of him but if he hadn't basically mutinied against the King of Prussia the Russians and British would have had a much harder time beating Napoleon.

Rasputin, seriously. That was one unkillable dude. (There have been other cool people like him, but he's the most famous one, and Russian one, which is bonus points.)

Michael Faraday. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday] He is a fairly well known scientist I suppose, but without his numerous advances in the fields of electromagnetism and chemistry we most definitely would not be were we are today.

Woody Guthrie, lived as a hobo in the great depression. He was a socialist too, and hated fascism, going as far as having a sticker with the words "This machine kills fascists" on his guitar.

Eddie Adams, the guy lived like a rock star and helped end the Vietnam War by changing the way people saw it and saved thousands of refugees, all in 1/500th of a second. Also a really nice guy.

He also made awesome music. and "This Machine Kills Fascists" is probably the coolest thing anybody has ever put on their guitar.

My picks gonna be Tom Waits. Last truely original American rock-and-roller. I've also never met a fan who wasn't also a very cool person. Waits magically makes you cooler by extension!

Will "snowy" Edwards

he was part of the australian machine gun corps

he is the man who shot down Baron von Richtoven (Red Baron)

the kill is official credited to Roy Brown a RAF (Royal Air Force) pilot as it was a good propoganda piece, however due to new tests looking at angles of shot and how long the baron remained in the air it was proven that only snowy could have fired the shot

sadly it is such a part of British national pride that he will never be celebrated for it

for more info see the discovery channel program- the red barons last flight
