'Donkey Gear' still would make a pretty lousy boss battle... Seeing this, we're still pretty far away from an actual Metal Gear.

On the other hand, the Sovjets already made something that moved itself using two giant drills, just like the Shagohod, in the Cold War. It could move through almost every kind of terrain, except on roads...
That's pretty hilarious. And I gotta say that thing was pretty freaky, hell I thought it was some kind of bug at first.

Wait, we're this far down in the comments, and no Skynet joke? You guys are slacking.

Yeah, I'm gonna jump on the Old bandwagon here.

Plus, Metal Gears run on two legs, the Shagohod being the only exception, though its detatched form did run on two drive systems.

Twin Drive System?

/Link is hotter than Setsuna.

1. They seriously need to dial down the noise on these things before they ever become applicable.
2. What the fuck?! This thing looks like something straight out of Silent Hill (except for color)... it's as if you took two extremely emaciated Dobermans, vertically cut them in half and stitched both the rear ends together, then threw some basic brain functions into an ugly backpack and strapped it onto Frankendog's back.

You know, wouldn't it of been easier to give it wheels?
No, not really, it's designed to carry things off the battle field (injured human soldiers from what I understand), it's easier to move on rough terrain with legs then with wheels isn't it?

That's amazing, especially the part at the end where it makes that jump. They need to do something about the buzzing noise though.
Is it weird that I felt bad for the thing when it was slipping on ice?

As for the MGS part it will be a zero threat to Snake, as he will hear it coming, because it's ridiculously loud. But it shows how people can make things that walk, everywhere. It looked like somekind of retarded gazelle but I want one.

Give it big wheels. Give it tracks. It's just a waste of money researching proper legs.

I wouldn't consider the Shagohod to be a Metal Gear, since it is basically a tank.

Then Outer Heaven wouldn't be considered a Metal Gear because it is a sea-bound unit, even though, like the Shagohod, it has nuclear launch capability.
Shagohod wasn't a metal gear, they all but say so in game. Metal Gear is brought up at the same time as the Shagohod and it is explained that the Shagohod was a separate project from the Metal Gear designs.

As for Outer Haven not being a Metal Gear, again correct. It was an Arsenal Gear, just like the Big Shell.

I was going to originally post.. pfft i kick it over i win. But the footage of balance recovery and was unbelievable and throughly creepy. I thought this was going to be footage of the mini rex the japanese built originally, which i think i've posted here before...Hmm can't find it ::shrugs:: It wasn't as agile as the miltary one.. just a big hulking walking replica. Prob like 12 feet tall or something.

Damn it. I guess it's because I haven't touched an MGS game in a year.
