The game doesn't have the same writing style as the previous iterations because games nowadays can use other methods to get you to care about the story. Sure, that doesn't mean a pretty game with no story is good but because their are other things to entertain us games need to spread out and not focus on just one aspect. Otherwise, this thread would be "Fallout 3: great story, absolutely horrible gameplay/graphics/layout." Its a good game, just because it isn't the same game as the original fallouts doesn't make it any worse. Times change, cultures evolve, and people get over it or risk becoming a crochety old man complaining about "newfangled" things.

I think its more the gaming industry has turned into a shambling corporate monster that spews out shiny looking games with no substance because kids today all have add and have no idea of how awesome games could be if they kept their standards a bit higher. It's just like people that go see Micheal Bay movies, it's killing the genre.

Quest related characters; never happened to me, or anyone I know. Walter and Colin both can dissapear
Cliffs with no collision; what are you going on about? If you go out in the wastes theres a cliff texture model that gets cut and pasted throughout the world that you can walk through, its almost everywhere in the north
Backwards bullets; Shoot anyone in vats point blank
NPCs flying in the sky; Seen it happen with deathclaws twice.
Perk problems; you made that one up, right? Pyromaniac doesn't affect the named flamer
NPC models deforming; I once saw a raiders hand get so distorted I thought it was a giant bat.
Falling out of world; Walking backwards down staircase in a shack basement of point lookout, also the diner in cantebury commons.
Heads spinning; Talk to a swimming npc.

lol yeah I'm just shit at the game, thats why I put over 200 hours into it and have every named weapon, armour and bobblehead. You probably didn't even know who harold was when you met him.

Spindle, chill out. You are nitpicking an otherwise great game. If I were to go and replay fallout 1 &2 I am sure I can find some problems with them as well. Your last post says that you have put 200 hours into the game, most of which I am assuming were enjoyable, otherwise you wouldn't have continued playing it. The game wasn't designed for people to spend all day digging through the fun to find the mistakes. As with ANYTHING in life, if you go around looking for its faults, you can find them easily.

And why would it matter if somebody doesn't know who an extremely minor character in a massive game is? Isn't it enough to enjoy the spectacle of talking to a treeman without having to know his back story and ancestry? Am I not allowed to enjoy a ham sandwich without knowing the breeding history of the pig?

So, the game sucks so much you've spent 200 irreplaceable hours of your lifespan playing it? Yeah, I've seen that reasoning before... usually just before the guys in the white coats arrive with a straitjacket.

Your walk doesn't match your talk, lad. If you despise the game so much, don't play it; problem solved. If you do play it so much, then you're either a sucker for punishment (and therefor shouldn't be griping) or you don't dislike Fallout 3 nearly as much as you claim (and therefor shouldn't be griping).

So stop griping.
