I'm sorry but I can't get over the fact that you guys are having people donate money to send Yahtzee to PAX. Who would do that!?! I have nothing against Yahtzee at all. I find some of his reviews to be kinda funny, but I don't like him enough to donate money JUST so he can fly first class to Seattle. Why can't the Escapist use THEIR money to fly him to PAX? Why do the fans need to donate money?

When Allison Theus needed a donation, it was for an important surgery in her shoulder. That was for a good cause!

And on top of this, you guys couldn't even come up with good prizes! Bungie gave out great prizes for their 20th anniversary and for a much cheaper and better price, and 100% of those profits went to charities. Can't we at least be rewarded better merchandise than a poster? Also, who would pay $5,000 for him to review their indie game? He's made reviews for games solely because so many people request for it. If I wanted him to review my game, I'd just need to make it a good game that people would enjoy, and if I had $5,000 to generously spare, then I'd probably have enough money to make a professional game.

Sorry, I think I might have gone off topic, there :/

Anyways, here's a second opinion:

I don't think $5,000 to "generously spare" automatically equates to having the hundreds of thousands of dollars a professional game requires.

On topic: then don't donate.

And the guy in that video is a kind of a dick.

I'm not interested in donating simply to get Yahtzee to a gaming convention, either, so I simply won't. No need to make such a fuss.

Because they're the ones who want to see him? If you don't want to see him, simply don't donate. Does it really hurt for them to ask? It's not even the 'mandatory donation' bullshit some people,*cough*my school*cough*, pull. Doesn't seem to be a legitimate complaint to me.

But hey, if you feel that way I respect that.

Yes, but if I had $5,000, I probably wouldn't spend that much all at once unless I had a lot more money. :/

It seems a little counter productive to complain about a voluntary thing.

But that's just how I see it. :)

I dont normally say things like this but, yeah, that guy on the video? He's an enormous ****.
Anyhow, getting Yahtzee to review your game isnt just for giggles, its a chance to get your shit put on the map. If anything, thats alot less than most advertising, and twice as effective. If you dont like his videos, which I could understand, brother, then dont donate. Its not like theyre forcing you, ya know? Other people happen to fans of his work and would love to get a chance to meet the man behind the show.

Aswell, lets not forget that this guy live on the other side of the goddamn world, shall we?
Overall, I think its just cause to donate a few extra bucks if youre into Yahtzee and PAX. If you dont think so, Youre entitled to your opinion, but other people do, and will donate, so the argument is moot.

haha, Just sayin, brother, the man has a loyal and loving fanbase.

To be honest, I scoffed pretty damn hard when I saw the prizes. Twenty bucks for a poster that I have to go to PAX to pick up? I'll pass. I'm not exactly angry, but I think it's a bit ridiculous.

If it was a fund for them to lock Yahtzee in a box and force him to watch crappy sitcoms for an hour each day, I might donate.

I'm not paying to send who I believe to be the worst video contributor on this site overseas, especially not first class.

Others can donate. I may be forced to eat the donations.

Don't want to donate to Yahtzee? Don't. Case closed. Move along.

Not sure why you posted a link to some jealous youtube guy, all his vid consists of is a rant against this website, fans, and the guy who put the site on the map. Then he asks for his own donations. How droll.
Him asking for donations was obviously sarcasm. T.T

And I'm quite aware that if I don't want to donate, then I shouldn't, but it just seems like they could've done this whole donation thing better. Still, I it's way better than partners on YouTube who just ask for money, for no reason at all, and for nothing in return.

Yeah, I guess this isn't something to make a fuss about. I just wanted to point out that this sounds a bit.........dumb. :/

I'm just stating my opinion, nobody has to agree. :)

Hell, the only reason I'm not donating a few bucks is because I'm too far away from seattle for me to even attend, so there wouldnt be a point.

Call me a callous asshole, but I thought the Alison thing was pretty stupid too. Sure I love EC and her work as much as any other fan, but I swear some one said that EC wasn't likely to continue without her. I don't see how that makes any sense if Erin and all those other upcoming artists are just as capable of producing a visually appealing show. It was even more a slap in the face to me to see that James is going to be profiting off of everyone's generosity by starting a publishing company with the extra money. I guess in the end it's all fair because I don't mind them being rewarded for their talented internet fame, but something about it just seemed like underhanded dealing to a bunch of sheep.

You get swag and the biggest asshole on earth to ask him about his mum, I'd donate if I was over 18 and had a credit card.

It's him probably lol. I dunno.

The way i see it is this is a scam. They are trying to scam money out of people for something that isn't even close to a necessity. If it works then they will continue to try this for sillier and sillier things. I couldn't care less if Yahtzee comes across the ocean. I'm not gonna see him and even if i were going to see him it's not worth donating money to. Sure i like his videos but not that much.
Just to let you all know, the video is correct about one thing: every "product" up to the $100 range is just a poster. You gonna spend 75 bucks on a poster?

5,000 dollars is probably a month or two's wages for most people (at least.) Did you work for a month or two to pay some guy twice ('cause the escapist pays him every week regardless) to make a 4-5 minute review about some game? And if I was an indie developer, why would I want Yahtzee to review my game? If he gives it a bad score and sales go down, what can I do? I spent 5 grand for some internet guy to whiz in my face. Nice going, me. Sure, he might like it. Yahtzee has really built his reputation as a guy who loves praising video games. :)
