Well, there are the classic virtuosos; Jaco Pastorius, John Entwistle (The Who), Geddy Lee (Rush), Steve Harris (Iron Maiden), Cliff Burton (Metallica), the like. There are also contemporary bassists, such as Justin Chancellor (Tool), John Myung (Dream Theater), Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck and the Flecktones), and Arif Mirabdolbaghi (Protest the Hero).

Personally, I like pretty much anything by those listed above.

I like Tell Me Baby by the Chili Peppers and most anything by Iron Maiden, especially The Longest Day. That's a fun one to play.

Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart by Stone Temple Pilots, Would? by Alice in Chains, Halloween and Eagle Fly Free (both by Helloween), Joy Ride by the Killers, N.I.B. by Black Sabbath, anything by Iron Maiden, Peace Sells by Megadeth, anything on the Kind of Blue album, Lithium by Nirvana, (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady and Soldier On (both from the new Oasis album), Money by Pink Floyd, anything by Primus, Rude Mood by Stevie Ray Vaughan, anything by Streetlight Manifesto, and Paradise City by Guns N' Roses.

...Lovely big block of text there. Oh well, it's all great stuff.

Pretty much the entire Iron Maiden discography, some truly amazing bass lines.
Muse as well has some great stuff, mostly because of the way it compliments the other instruments really well.
Alot of Cliff Burton's (though thats more his soloes) and Flea's stuff is really cool as well.

Nobody has mentioned Primus yet? Come on! Those are some of the best basslines I've ever heard.

Also, "We care a lot" from Faith No More.

Always loved this song. Most of Tool's songs kick ass, but something about this bass line really gets to me. Fun to play too.

*crosses arms* 0.o BUAHAHAHAHAHA....

Hm...the bassline's a little repetitive, but it does sound pretty awesome. Currently looking into getting a bass and picking it up, so I'll keep this song in mind.

I'm sorry that I can only add Rock Band songs (at least one of which has been mentioned), but Panic Attack, Girl's Not Grey, and Indestructible have pretty solid bass parts. There's also a Nirvana song that had a particularily awesome bassline, but I'm not sure which. Breed, I think...anyone feel like checking?

Most defiantly try this song out. It is not as repetitive as you might think. Justin Chancellor keeps the same basic idea throughout the song, but he does turn that riff inside out and does some very interesting things to it. You will notice when you try to play it.

Not to say it is overly complex, but it is pretty damn cool.

The opening riff from Bombtrack by Rage Against the Machine is, I think, one of the best I've heard. Maybe not the most technical or complex, but for sheer awesomeness, you can't beat it. In fact, Rage have excellent bass on all their songs, really.

Grey Strawberries is a brazilian post rock band with a heavy and infectious bassline. I mean infectious in the way that you will be tapping your foot or humming it for a week.
