The best bass lines ever are all from Gang of Four, you ask "Why would I care about these bass lines, what's so special about this band I've never heard of?" Well you silly hypothetical person and question. Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers was once in a band that soley covered The album Entertainment by this very band. Also they're one of the greatest of the real punk bands, beaten only by Buzzcocks. Also the bass lines are really good, like scary good. I would point you towards "Damaged Goods" If you wanna hear it (try to find a non live version for true amazing bass) of course nobody listens to me anyway so whats the point.
Gang Of Four have some mesmorising bass lines. Sometimes the are awesome in their brutal simplicity and other times they wander all over the place.

The two bassists that I most admire are John Entwistle (The Who) and Ryan Martine (Mudvayne). However the bass line that sticks in my head is the intro from 'Would?' by Alice In Chains.

Most defiantly try this song out. It is not as repetitive as you might think. Justin Chancellor keeps the same basic idea throughout the song, but he does turn that riff inside out and does some very interesting things to it. You will notice when you try to play it.

Not to say it is overly complex, but it is pretty damn cool.
Then try it I shall. Once I can afford said bass. Probably after paying tuition.

I finally thought of one that's not Rock Band. Juicebox - The Strokes. (sorry, no fancy link)

Protest the Hero. Most songs really, usually goes unnoticed by me, until I start paying attention and listen out for it.
