i'd let my kids play almost any game. not including Grand theft auto of course where you can kidnap a women, rape her, kill her, murder her family, and then get away with it by hiding in an alley for about a minute or so. it would be down right retarded to let your kids play those games. Red dead redemption isn't nearly as bad as gta but i still wouldn't let my kid play it
You do know you can't rape women in any of the Grand Theft Auto games, right? Also, 99% of the NPCs do not have families.

Ahem.

I'm 13 and play AO games. My parents explained to me the difference between fiction and reality, when I was like... 5. I would play Serious Sam, while sitting in my father's lap at the age of 3. Same with Fallout 1 and 2. Also, Most of the time, when kids go out shooting people, it is because they are mental, not because of video games.

On top of all this, if a parent just let their kid play the friggin' game, they wouldn't make such a big deal about it, and probably wouldn't argue with you. I have a friend, same age, who isn't allowed to watch rated R and can only play T games. He argues with his parents about it every step of the way, and if they let him play the games, he probably wouldn't play them that much, anyways.

I've beaten Red Dead three times. I've owned Dead Space. Both Bioshocks, and much more. Also, why are you worrying about a kid who is not your own. Forgive me for saying this, but you kinda rub off as a twat.
yes i freakin know the people dont have family and you cant rape them, i was over exagerating.

i could care less if a kid plays a violent video game, but a game where you are a gangster and you can go around killing innocent people, and then go have sex with a hooker(which you can do)

do i think it will all of a sudden make a kid go insane and kill people? no
but do i think its still bad for little kids to play? yes

What I don't understand is parents that let their kids play violent games, but when a small, sexual thing is involved... it is an immediate 'NO!!!'

Oh, Mister Awesome, The twat part was not directed at you, but the OP of the post, sorry for that mishap. The first and second paragraph was meant for you.

I see a lawsuit in the works when the kid acts up and the parents don't want to blame themselves.
And then cnn says "all video games are bad" Its a never ending cycle

First of all, I don't think video games cause people to go crazy and shoot people or whatever. I actually don't think it has that much influence on behavior overall. That said:

Big whoop I say let him play as long as he doesn't go online and earfuck me with his incessant profanity. rambling, stupidity and or rambling. And besides on Penn and Tellers Bullsh!t, they took a kid who was about 9 that liked Modern Warfare shoot an M4(or something close in look to it) HE CRIED AFTER WORD!!! that aught tell ya something. And besides that its on the parents counscience if "little billy" goes psycho and hurts or kills one of his classmates even if they get away with pointing the finger at videogames
This is not the way to view it. I guess if I have a child that gets killed by little Billy, it's OK, because his parents now have to own up to their mistake. What about me? The guy that raised his kid not to do this?

The problem I have with premature introduction into adult material is that kids don't understand it but pretend that they do. And usually their only guide of reference is based on the source material which is usually strongly exaggerated versions of the truth. Which makes it even harder to understand. What's worse is if the legal gaurdian is an irresponsible person, they have yet another person that is a bad role model to understanding said content in everyday life. Said 9 year old probably says a cuss word every other word when around his peers too seem "mature". The problem is adult material can be deceptive to a child's grasp of maturity, responsiblity, and social behaviors.
I take issue with my 5 and 7 year old neices being allowed to watch family guy and and play GTA. As well, the show and game are praised as "quality" entertainment at the house. I consider myself liberal, teen years, I would have no problem.

Saying "I played GTA when I was 5 and have never shot anyone" isn't the point. I am sure no one is going to admit any difficulties "maturing" over the internet. But I have seen it enough in real life to know it has an effect. If your age is a single digit, you shouldn't be watching stuff rated R without a parent present, and you should stay at ESRB rating of "T" and below.

This is why I don't have a mic on 95% of the time in the public community. This is also why I mute just about everyone in a lobby on MW2.

I don't see any problem with letting kids play violent games. As long as they understand not to be violent in real life, then no harm done. When I have kids, I'm going to be as lenient as possible.

Hell, I was playing fucking Unreal Tournament when I was 6, so I grew up around that kind of shit.

The kid said his favorite games were shooters. Big deal. Fuck, lighten up for a bit.
Exactly. I've been playing M games since I was 5. I wasn't warped by them.
Not that you'd be able to tell if you were.

First Thought: Why are you in lessons with a 9 year old?
Second Thought: Kids will lie to the parents and say M means Moderate Voilence.

I'm gonna be honest, first really violent game i played was when i was about eight or nine was Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 (If you believe it isn't that violent in some parts, i have two words for you: NINJA CORRIDOR) and i turned out more or less alright. I guess it all really depends on the context of the said games, and what happens in them. However, i don't think kids below fifteen should really be playing anything like GTA or say Manhunt or anything like that. While I don't have much against, say modern warfare 2 or something like that, i do believe younger kids need to stay away from the heavier stuff.

And no, im not one of those people who believe all videogames are able to turn kids into raving murderers. Its normally a combination of social and psychological issues that does that, however thats not to say i don't believe games can't have impacts (Just like movies, comics and every other media).

Anyway, thats just my opinion on the subject.

I played video games when I was a kid. I never even had to buy them if they wheren't on a handheld, because my brother had tons of awesome shiz that I shouldn't have been playing. It's not the parents fault if the kid can sneak around them.

See it all the time. The parents just, buy it for them. Without any hesitation. It's disgusting. No matter how much we warn them, they don't care.

Seriously? I wasn't even allowed to play Hitman at age 12, let alone something as bloody and disgustingly overdone as GOW2 at 9! I don't really understand why kids these days are obsessed with violence. When I was a kid, I loved games centered for kids my age. Like Spyro, and Bandicoot. And Commander Keen.

unfortunately video games get the bad rap for being too violent ex1 frumpy mom. but alot of times parents are the ones to blame for buying them in the first place. I was at gamestop the other day when i saw a mom buying her 7 year old left for dead 2. when the gamestop employee said i must tell you there is blood, gore, language, intense violence, etc etc the mother casually replied... well thats fine. some parents are idiotic, its these parents that are raising the mentally fragile young kids, ignorantly on gears of war and gta and are creating the freak psycho cases that give videogames a bad image. people should really be paying attention to how their kids react to violence and be judging what is appropriate for their kids, not blaming the video games for the corruption and violence in their children.

don't get me wrong mate Im compeletely with you but the way things are now adays the game industry is always blamed instead of irresponsible parents, who buy without learning more about the games that cause "little billy" to go nuts. So what can we do when thats how the dice roll?

The only cure is to get him off such games.

Make him play F.E.A.R.
