one mans nonsense is another mans fun i guess. though i didn't like the trading in D2 either. in fact to be fair these game types usely center around heavy trading or shit ton of grinding to make some of the funner builds. Unless you use a "new-player" friendly build. which even then still requires a certain amount of gear. and i find PoE to be a lot more Grindy then D3.

Also building builds around certain sets of gear is fun and all but some of them are just fucking outrageous. i mean just look at this :http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/846000
You guessed right there. I enjoy this kind of nonsense :). So long as I make actual progress towards what I want (and be it through the options to amass currency and a fair trading system) I can grind in this kind of game.

There are builds not really dependant on gear / expensive gear. The trapper I mentioned before only needs a lowlevel unique to work (you are going to have the currency to trade it when you reach the level needed to wear it), the rest you are most likely going to find. Managed to finish the story and even do some endgame content with it.

The build you linked is bleigh. A guy with such legacy gear on the dumpster league (standard) can only take +10 whatever nodes and kick ass. Unless you already have myriads of currency and the time to level up to 90 not worth considering.
dumpster league? well i guess playing hardcore and dying to desync is ok. or better yet play invasion and die an off screen attack or come up to a boss that will basically one shot you so you have to start the instance over again. yeah that's fun.
I don't get this about PoE players. it's like play invasion/hardcore or GTFO. like standard is for the peasants or something.
and yes i know there are builds that aren't very gear dependent but when you say your build needs a couple of low level unique's that doesn't exactly sound cheap. i'm guessing that some of those are going to cost a couple of exalts?

Honestly while a smaller very vocal minority do actually view non-hardcore players as worse, the "dumpster league" line is really more in reference to the fact that EVERY ITEM will eventually filter into standard (Any dead hardcore player ends up there and at the end of the 4 month leagues the non-hardcore characters transfer there). It is the "dumpster" where you can find every item that has ever existed even if it won't drop anymore as long as a player that got it, still has it in their inventory/stash. It also has way inflated prices due to there being so much currency.

Really I'd recommend just playing ambush. The strongboxes give tons of loot to get you started and the prices to actually buy items will be lower. It's way less toxic when in game, and having never traded for items myself you can pretty easily make it to A3 cruel with just about any build but you WILL probably die past that if you don't have some form of health/resists. Also builds like that are seriously unnecessary to actually beat the game and get to end game. You really don't need op gear just marginally good stuff which can and does drop pretty frequently. Though farming later areas in merciless does become a pretty big thing.

Ohh that's what it means. Whoops.
Well anyway I have a character on ambush. A level 59 templar that's searing bound going into desecrate. Right now I'm having trouble farming act 3. I have to still do fell shrine runs.

Also I'm going to end up playing standard sooner or later since ambush only lasts 6 months.

Honestly that's a big part of why I come back to PoE so often is that each 4 month league brings crazy new stuff and usually incorporates the old stuff from the previous leagues. I think to date the only one that didn't really get brought back (outside of a strongbox mod) was Onslaught which was just a 20% flat move/attack buff to monsters. I really enjoy the starting fresh feeling. I wish D3 did it in some way. It would at least give me a reason to level a new character. As for searing bond flameblast tends to work REALLY well with that since they both benefit from the burning damage nodes. It can really help when running into harder mobs.

If you've beaten Vaal already I'd recommend switching to city of sarn or docks. Sarn is crazy easy as long as you stay out of the houses and don't piss off the bear trap unique. Also being that you don't have the invasion mobs to farm docks just get 75% cold and 75% fire because 99% of the time outside of insane things (Exile's/Invasion bosses) nothing in that zone will do lightning or chaos damage. Docks is also really good because it's one of the first zones in cruel that drops 6 socket items. If you are still stuck completely in act 2 try and get a flameblast gem (Templar/Witch Brutus reward) that should help kill a bunch of stuff more quickly as long as you aren't literally 1shot.
