First off, for those of you still saying this game is a prequel, it?s not. It?s been confirmed as a reboot, as was Devil May Cry 3. For those using the prequel as an explanation for his different appearance and theorising that he is developing his demon powers and his hair is slowly turning white, if you were to replay the first Devil May Cry, Dante explains to Trish on their first meeting that his powers had already manifested when he was a child and thus he was born with white hair. It would only be plausible for this game to be an origin story if he did not look like the guy from Ninja Theory. In fact, if this was an origin story, he should look similar to his appearance in Devil May Cry 3 but slightly younger.
They have stated that they are sourcing their game from the novels, but this is a lie. These novels detail Dante?s life when he used the pseudonym ?Tony Redgrave?, and state that he had long white hair ? that he never died - and had a muscular build. He also always carried his sword that Sparda gave before he died, and not a stick.
Also, there are some people saying that the game will follow Dante as he struggles to accept who he is, but that was what Devil May Cry 3 was about and thus that thesis is invalid.
Ninja Theory are terrible and unoriginal developers. Follow their previous games and you can see, like in these examples.
* Heavenly Sword was a God of War copy, there?s even a God of War suit of armour and weapons within the game.
* Enslaved was short with dull combat that was unchallenging and the climbing was ripped right from the Prince of Persia Games. Even the ending of Enslaved was entirely plagiarised from the Matrix in a way, with people hooked up to machines to see a fake reality.
* The trailer for the latest Devil May Cry shows the game prototype as he throws a car using a whip that the stick had transformed into. This comes from Dante?s Inferno, when the stick had turned into a scythe.
We need to face the truth in this situation ? Ninja Theory are unoriginal and the trailer shows they even lack the thought required to make the gun play interesting and in short lost all the style and personality Devil May Cry use to have.
This game is going to fail not only due to its sudden lack of previous life in the game but because one of the developers went as far to say he doesn?t care about the fans, despite the fact that he should be catering to them. By being so blatantly offensive to those who give the money required to keep the company profitable, it?s likely not many people will buy the game. This happens with almost every creative medium so they really needed to have thought careful about how they treated their fans and customers.
They should not have kept their current design for Dante?s appearance when they got such a wave of negative feedback from the series? supporters. Despite being a reboot, they should have remained faithful to the original source material. Other franchises have done this; just compare the appearance of Freddy from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Freddy still looks like Freddy! Look at Friday the 13th remake ? Jason looks the same as he did before! It?s okay to change the story, but you do not change the characters appearance when you already have a brilliant design.
I am not against a reboot, but Ninja Theory had the audacity to say it took them a full year to produce his new look when all the designer did was look in the mirror and model the character from his own image.
We should boycott this game. Others are already petitioning and there are several face book pages relating to the boycotting of the game ? which is the first time I?ve seen any reaction like this from a game - with websites and forums in an uproar.
The Ninja Theory creator believes Enslaved was a great game, despite having no replay value and having low sales, and blames the fans of the Devil May Cry series for the previously mentioned low sales instead of taking responsibility for the flaws of his own game and learn from them as a normal creator would have done. It is obvious this guy has no respect for the series, and in the interview he even says the games have a punk feel despite it being an obviously heavy metal feel. He knows nothing about Devil May Cry and didn?t even know about it when it was first released. He believes he can make any terrible game he wants and it will still be bought on mass not matter what.
Anyway, I have to apologise for this rant. The obvious signs of Ninja Theory destroying this once great game series are obvious, especially as I have been reading forums and other websites while trying to find more information on the game, and I do hope they change him back to his original great character that fans loved. I?ve seen many good games get ruined and I don?t want this to be ruined as well, so think twice about buying this game and giving a positive message to this egotistical fool.
