Rebecca Mayes, your cup of tea?

Since I hadn't seen anyone like her before I became a fan and watched her videos every week.

The question I'm posing to you is, has Rebecca lost her touch or was she never your cup of tea in the first place?

I've unfortunately become weary of her songs finding them, dreary and lost. They don't seem to talk about the games at all. For example her Batman: Arkham Asylum song talked about the game, talked about batman and of course the fact in batman you don't kill anyone. A comment on how in 90% of games now, you do kill someone? Off topic I know but that song in comparison to her other ones...recently she seems more interested in just singing and not talking about the game.

Or maybe I like my videos to talk about their title.

I've always disliked her, her voice is annoying and the songs aren't really even that clever. I suspect most of her fanbase comes from the fact that she is a female, who writes about videogames and can play a guitar.

Meh. I like a little surrealism sometimes. Personally, I think the Reach one was her best yet. To each their own.

From the few attempts of watching her show I never really got into it. I'm sure that at some point I'll give it another shot, but if nothing clicks, it's likely I'll never go back.

I do think though that she gave games another dimension, instead of looking at them as games, looking at them as art.

Alas, she is not my cup of tea. I dislike about 80 % of her muses and would choose to only have one song on my MP3 player (Love You Hate You - the PvZ song). But I still root for her and wish her the best.

Her first song was okay but the novelty soon wear off. Her songs start out really good but then she goes into that repeating thing near the end for 2 minuets. Her songs all starting sounding the same.

I'm a big fan of the videos since I saw The Sims 3 video. Great stuff.
Look at the sims 3 video then look at most recent ones, they could have been written by two different people. If she's a new artististic turn, I don't think it suits her.

I enjoy Rebecca's songs. In fact, I just bought them on iTunes and am having a lovely time listening to them right now.

I think people make the mistake of thinking that the songs have to be reviews of the games. I also think (from my observations of the comments pages) that Rebecca can, apparently, do no right in the eyes of her viewers. When she created a different sound, people complained that they didn't recognise her style. When she creates a song in her favourite ballad style, people complained that her songs were all the same. When she attempted to make a review style point about a game, she was booed for being "too negative" and "judgemental". Whe she wrote a song simply trying to convey an atmosphere of a game, or an aspect that stood out to her, she was condemned for "not talking enough about the game".

I just enjoy the musicianship, the creativity and the sheer hard work that goes into these songs. As someone who has studied music, I know just how hard it can be to create the perfect recording. Sure, some of her songs aren't my favourites, but, hey, I can like a musician or a band without automatically liking all of their work.

OP, I'm sorry if you don't enjoy Rebecca's work. I happened to love her latest song and am eagerly waiting for it to come out on iTunes. But that's my personal opinion, and it can't and shouldn't change yours. I just think maybe you should realise that music is a subjective experience for the most part and, as such, it's almost impossible to make judgements on whether any given piece of music is "bad" or "good", or whether the composer is "wonderful" or "has lost her touch".

In short, I think your question is largely irrelevant. Those enjoying Rebecca's music will continue to do so, and those who don't will happily seize upon your comments as proof of their beliefs.

For me, she's just changed too much for me to keep up with. I liked her older stuff but not the newer stuff. If she'd been consistent maybe I'd still like her or maybe I would have got bored, who knows?
But yeh I still hope she's successful in whatever she does and hope it all works out.
EDIT: I still believe she has a beautiful voice and is brilliant and maybe i'll embrace the later work.

I like most of Rebecca Mayes' songs, and I find them enjoyable enough to listen to. If I wanted an honest, old-fashioned game review, I'd watch a video from here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/reviews], or here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation]. Not everyone likes the same thing.

I must say, that is appealing.

I listened to a coupel of her songs and didn't like her. Recently, I listened to one of her newer videos, kinda liked it, and thought maybe I should give her another chance. But then I listened to another video, and came back to the same old confusion.

Not a fan.

She's alright. I wouldn't want to her to be the only form of music I listen to, but I wouldn't complain if that was the only thing on my Ipod.

I rather enjoy listening to her work - the Halo Reach one in particular had almost Nothing to do with Halo, but I enjoyed it none-the-less.

No, not my cup of tea at all.
But it must be difficult coming out with a new song on a weekly basis.

No, she writes the same song over and over. If she didnt have clips of the game in the background you wouldnt know shes singing about video games. But its hard to criticise her because of the smitten following that she has.

I like her music. Lately I've found it's been sort of the "same" but then again, no one is a songwriting machine, so I don't mind this. But she's been my cup of tea ever since I first saw the Batman: Arkham Asylum song, so my oppinion may be a bit warped by fanboy-ism. I think that maybe she's lost her touch a little bit, her songs being very simmilar, but I sure she will get it back.
Plus, apparently she's really busy right now IRL, so I get that it might be difficult to write a new great song every time she tries, especially if she has a lot of oither stuff going on.

Nah. Not my thing.

I've never really seen the point to her songs. Besides, they always strike me as being a bit too starry-eyed and hippy-ish.
