Okay. This sounds cruel, especially me being a nameless Guttersnipe with a Hobopack on the end of a stick and a Pocket full of Dreams, but this is how I see it...
Rebecca Mayes is a Talentless unimaginative Hack. The amount of 'thought' that goes into her weekly videos gives off the same brainwave activity as that of your common Springer Fan, and were this a fairer world, she'd have her fingers removed with Bolt Cutters so she cant produce the Weekly Cacophony the Escapist pays her for.

I like the idea of what she does songs about video games but her final product tends to not deliver for me and generally the quality of the songs and content is abit pants I do like folk kind of music but I can say she isnt really my cuppa tea.
But I also think she might be getting a hard time due the stuff others upload to this site all of it brilliant Loadingreadyrun guys turn out loads of top class stuff. I wouldnt fancy trying to one up them every week

Her songs are... well... Kinda below okay, I don't dislike her or anything, but it kinda all sounds same and it sounds like it doesn't have melody at all, the only song I like from her is love song for yahtzee that one was good, but it still had mostly similar melody as others.
This. I really don't mind her making videos, since some people seem to enjoy them. The only one that I have ever liked was the zero punctuation videos. But to me the music is too abstract and barely related to video games. I also think she's slightly psychotic.Iron Criterion said:
I like it. Sure everything is not what I would want but it's her work and she can take it to whereever she likes. It makes a change from the stuff that comes out of my radio. I think the music is quite good, although some of her songs are better than others.
Not really my thing. She is talented and I hope she does continue her work for those who do enjoy her songs (god knows it's a LOT better than the stuff that goes at the radio these days). I've listend/watched three or so of her songs but I never really got into it. A shame indeed, but can't really help it, I guess I'm just more of a listener to orchestrated music.
I like what she's trying to do (give games an artistic interpretation), but I don't think she's doing it very well.
Some of the earlier tracks are better, but Mayes doesn't always seem clear on her own objectives. Is she taking the piss out of a game, is she championing it, or is she merely using it as a very basic jumping point from which to write poetry-by-association? All of which are pretty interesting ideas, but not all at once.
The songs themselves are becoming quite same-y, lacking any innovation. She once quoted Sufjan Stevens as an inspiration and I do wish she would take his same sense of play, and go a bit more crazy with instruments and music styles rather than the same acousticcy singer-songwriter route.

She's okay. Not great, but by no stretch of the word is she "bad". I watch her videos every once in a while.

Her voice is annoying, she looks annoying, her songs are uninspired and annyoing, and she has never been funny.
She should really be dropped. Perhaps get the guy who does the "Freeman's Mind" machinima, or another video game commentary series.

The three songs I've listened to by her haven't made me a fan. I don't see why she's even on the site.

Never liked any of it, I wish her every success in her career though.
Also, how many songs has she made now? How many do known artists put out in a similar amount of time? Putting out a song a week (I think that's what she does) is bound to affect the quality.
