I think people make the mistake of thinking that the songs have to be reviews of the games. I also think (from my observations of the comments pages) that Rebecca can, apparently, do no right in the eyes of her viewers. When she created a different sound, people complained that they didn't recognise her style. When she creates a song in her favourite ballad style, people complained that her songs were all the same. When she attempted to make a review style point about a game, she was booed for being "too negative" and "judgemental". Whe she wrote a song simply trying to convey an atmosphere of a game, or an aspect that stood out to her, she was condemned for "not talking enough about the game".
This.
I really like Rebecca Mayes's music, no matter what your opinions on her - you have to admit that the amount of work she does for every song is staggering. She has to write all the elements of the song (no mean feat - I tried to right a song for a novel I've written, the lyrics alone took me three months), perform it 'live' on the internet, conceive and create the video, not to mention intertwining all this around her other projects. I couldn't do it, neither could most of her audience - that's what's so cool about what she does.
She's been experimenting quite a bit recently, using different musical styles and instruments (see her Heavy Rain and War For Cybertron videos) while still trying to maintain the core of what her fans like. So it's not fair for people to say that 'her songs all sound the same.'
I can concede that maybe she does repeat the chorus to a song too much. But that to me is a criticism of music in general - most songs with lyrics have a tendency to repeat, this is a technique designed to stick them in your head. It's a trick pop musicians use all the time. And Rebecca Mayes's songs are catchy, especially the Yahtzee song (Is it okay?).
I mean yeah, her music isn't for everybody - but what music is?
