The Orange Box.

Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode Two, Portal, Team Fortress 2 and the false hope that VALVe will ever release Episode Three in our lifetime for only $19.99!

metro 2033- a shooter with a bioshock-esk vibe with a hint of survival horror to it and a very interesting barter system to it (your good bullets are your money)

but you can get every game valve has ever made for £50, and kill that false hope with the distinctive number of 2s but distinct lack of 3s.

This

Also if your cheap you can always download Team Fortress 2 for FREE! Perhaps the most polished shooter in history, for absolutely nothing.

System shock 2, its awesome.
You wanna be very careful with System Shock 2, it's a truly fantastic game (as is Deus Ex), but these games have aged just horribly. If you're the type of person who really enjoys Call of Duty (particularly Modern Warfare 2), you most likely will not like System Shock 2 or Deus Ex.

OT: I recommend the entire Half-Life series; Half-Life epitomizes what a great single-player FPS should be, and hasn't really aged at all (at least, HL2 and on hasn't). Also, Borderlands is pretty good, and if you don't like how piss easy Fallout 3 and NV are, definitely check out the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series; those games are considerably more challenging than Fo3/NV.

pathologic. one of the most depressing fps's you will ever play. period.
you get to kill children....
how many fps games let you do that (outside of bioshocks annoying "morality choices")?

or possebly metro 2033, s.t.a.l.k.e.r. call of prypyet and cryostsis are all good games too

Metro, give it a look.

Also you might wanna give S.T.A.L.K.E.R. a look. I can't promise you'll enjoy it, but there is nothing quite like it.

theres 3 c's in the title

also duke nukem forever "it's good!"
Okay I have to be the one to question this... are you serious?
I don't want to 'nuke' the game or anything, cause Randy Pitchford might have a breakdown on twitter again. But that game was more disapointing than the new Star Wars.

Aside from mocking people more successful than me (population serveral billion), L4D2, lots of fun people to play with and because of that, best replay value.

Hell, why not stress-test the whole system!

Crysis. It's fast-paced AND incredible.

I'll add a third vote for metro 2033. Fantastic, haunting game.
