It's a Friday night, I've got nothing to do, nowhere to go and I'm bored. Perhaps the escapist could recommend me an awesome film to make this boredom disappear? thanks in advance for any input you guys type out tonight :)

Oldboy is a pretty good film. Hmm... there was also this other film I'm thinking of that was pretty good. If I remember correctly, it was called Oldboy.

....

Just watch Oldboy already, damn you,

Swimming with Sharks

It's a dark comedy starring Kevin Spacey and Frank Whaley. Just as a heads up though, it's the kind of movie you have to sit down and watch from opening credits to end without interuption. Otherwise, you may miss important info.

When requesting help for something to watch or read it usually helps to include other stuff you have watched and liked.

It depends on what type of movies you like.
If you like dark comedies, you can't go wrong with Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Observe and Report, Death to Smoochy, Bad Santa or Eight Heads in a Dufflebag.

If you like serious, dramatic (anti)war movies I'd suggest Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down or Apocalypse Now.

For Sci-fi movies (both serious and comedic) Go with either Star Trek (semi-serious 2010 movie), Fifth Element (action comedy), Serenity (semi-comedic) or Galaxy Quest (comedy).

If you want a horror movie, go with Event Horizon.
And if you want a more dramatic/action type movie, go with either The Terminator, T-2, Aliens, The Crow, Moonchild (foreign language film, subtitles only).

Wish I knew your tastes a little better but I'll give it a shot.

Since you're on this site, you should really consider Scott Pilgrim vs. the World if you haven't seen it already. Video games and indie rock. It really is a movie aimed towards our demographic. Some people say that it is a little too pandering but I don't agree with them. It really is one of my favorite movies of all time.

For another recommendation though I would need a little more info on your specific tastes. I've got a little bit of flavor for every occasion if you know what I mean. ^_^

Funny you should say that. I've been meaning to watch that for the first time for a week now, but haven't had the time.

This is no coincidence...you stalker, you.
Look, there are only 2 ways out of this. Either you watch Oldboy or I keep stalking you. And calling you late at night and breathing heavily into the phone. I'm sure you don't want that, so watch Oldboy. Naow.

Well where should I start?

Foreign: Just about any del Toro movie, as long as the majority of it is in Spanish--the ones he does that are in English tend to suck-- Or if you're feeling more Farther East the films of Kirosawa are AMAZING. He directed the movie that the original Star Wars movies are based on.

Melodrama: A Place in the Sun was pretty good. Mildred Pierce is also a good one, it does seem to drag on though. HBO did do a remake of it that seemed to be short lived.

Action: Pulp Fiction, fastest 2 hours in your life. My only complaint with that movie is that it wasn't long enough. It seemed like each actor ot his 15 minutes in the spotlight to do their famous seen, then they're quickly hurried off.

Documentry: Hoop Dreams is the super popular one amongst film buffs. The Decline of Western Civilization 2 is supose to be good. And Jesus Camp is the scariest documentry I have ever seen.

Indie: Everything Must Go was good, a different side of Will Farrel, but still good. Tree of Life is also suppose to be good, haven't gotten a chance to see it yet though.

Comedy: Paranormal Activity 1 and 2 are two of the funniest movies I've seen in a while.

Musical: Singing in the Rain is great if you keep an open mind to musicals. If not, The South Park movie--it's a musical.

That's just a couple really good ones. I know of a lot more, though.

OH! Oh, oh, oh! You want-no, you need-to watch Watchmen. It is a really, really awesome movie.
Here's what's awesome about it:
The acting
The effects
The writing
The cinematography
The directing

However, a lot of people don't like because it does start off a little slow in the beginning if you haven't read the graphic novel.
