Oh boy...

-Stalker and Solaris both by Andrei Tarkovski. Better yet if you watch Solaris and 2001: A Space Oddysey.
-Duck Soup, a Marx Brothers movie, a comedic masterpiece, and if you're in a theme for comedy, then go ahead and watch the Monty Python trilogy.
-A Shot in the Dark, although if you enjoyed The Pink Panther 1 & 2, then after seeing Sellers as Closeau you'll end up LOATHING the new versions. (Although, nobody in here actually enjoyed the Steve Martin versions right? right!?).
-Noviembre, a spanish film, it's a beautiful story about a group of actors that perform only in the streets.
-Dreams by Akira Kurosawa, one of the most gorgeous spectacles you'll ever lay eyes on.
-Fantasia, same as Dreams but adding a soundtrack that stands well on it's own.

I hope that helped.

You should check out The Prestige - early-ish Christopher Nolan. It's got David Bowie in it playing Nikola Tesla.
I was just thinking of that one when this thread popped up.

Two films that I feel have sort of slipped under the radar is Nolan's Insomnia, and Red Dragon. Both interesting stories about relatively sympathetic killers, and how they came to be.

but if you see red dragon you have to watch the silence of the lambs right after
Nobody's really forcing you, but I'd still recommend that film for different reasons.

Red Dragon is a self-contained story; only Hannibal is the canon protagonist (or, to be fair, antagonist) so you can enjoy one without the other.

The American: Great movie, brilliantly paced and because it really shows how effective silence in film is.
Crazy Heart: Jeff Bridges is awesome in this one. Furthermore, the soundtrack is amazing.
The Departed: Brilliant acting on all parts, exciting as hell!
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Simply because you have to watch it, should be mandatory really.
Lord of War: A actually good movie starring Nicolas Cage? I know, huge surprise!

& finally:

Cape Fear (the Robert De Niro version): If only for the unintentional hilarity of dated thrillers (Also, why do they seemingly live next to Mordor?)

Angel Heart
Starring a pre-mutilated Mickey Rourke and DeNiro in one of his creepiest preformances. It blends my favourite genres perfectly: Film Noir/Hard Boiled Detective/Occoultism/Horror

&

Jacobs Ladder
If you like the original silent hill series you owe this flick a great deal as it borrowed heavily it's style, settings(hospitals, subways) and overall hellish, nightmare, isolated, "what the fuck am I doing here?" sort of vibe.

Total Recall

It's such a great popcorn flick, and on top of that the story is actually pretty damn cool. It's by far my favorite Arnold movie, and movie to pop in on the weekends when I just want to have a a great time.

I gotta say, lots of good taste in this here thread...

As for me, I say The Thin Man, the 1934 original. You know how every crime comedy with a male and female lead rips off Moonlighting? Watch this to see where Moonlighting got its tricks. (And if you like it the sequels generally aren't bad.)

Also Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte des Loups), a French costumed period martial arts romantic fantasy action horror mini epic. It is utterly bonkers, and sublime. Watch it just for the best martial arts sequence in the rain I've ever seen. And a naked Monica Bellucci in her prime (enabling arguably the best dissolve in the history of cinema).

Dark City, if you like German Expressionism, or stylized noir in general. It is really good. It is also IMPERATIVE THAT YOU WATCH THE DIRECTOR'S CUT, NOT WATCH ANY BIT OF THE ORIGINAL CUT, TALK TO NO ONE ABOUT IT AND NOT CHECK IT OUT ON YOUTUBE OR READ THE REVIEWS. The original cut reveals WAY too much too soon, and everything and everyone will have assumed you know what's up and spoil it. It's 66 on Metacritic and 75 on Rotten Tomatoes if you care about that sort of thing, and it's one of Roger Ebert's Greatest Films of All Time. I'd link to a trailer, but it's one of those infuriating trailers that's brilliantly executed but gives away half the movie. Watch it after the movie because it's a really nice trailer.

The Fall, Tarsem Singh's last film. Opinions differ on the quality of the story (I think it's great), but it has indisputably some of the best imagery ever put on celluloid. No CGI (or visual effects, really) in the entire film. Knowing that, absolutely watch the trailer for this one.

Three Kings, the '99 action movie. Really fun and really smart. Also interesting visuals.

In Bruges. Just...that. It's an excellent dark comedy that I thoroughly reccomend.

Also, considering I've just come back from seeing it, Attack The Block. It was really rather entertaining.

Requiem for a Dream. If you have already seen it then watch it again. If you haven't watched it before make sure to approach it with an open mind as it is depressing and does not end on a happy note.
Such an amazing move one of my favourites very depressing though!
