Hmm. Hasn't really been that busy of a year for anime for me.
I've been watching Kill la Kill and Attack on Titan, and those are well and good, but I barely hear anyone talk about Gatchaman: CROWDS. It flew under the radar of so many people, and it's easily a hidden gem for this year. Amazing soundtrack and animation (even the 3D looks decent). All wrapped up in a nice story to tie it together. It's mostly a sit-back-and-enjoy type of show and it had me smiling so much while I was watching.
Also, obligatory "GATCHAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!"
I've never actually heard dubstep in anime before, and it's done so well, too.
Anyway...
Kill la Kill: It's just good, action-packed, brain-cell killing stupidity. Every episode past 4 I have really enjoyed, even though the first 3 had me on the fence. The action is good (except for that one fucking 3D part in epi.3), the music is beyond excellent, the art direction is orgasm-inducing, and overall, it's just a really solid show. It's shaping up to be another classic by Imiashi.
Attack on Titan: Good start, but pacing takes a hit soon after. I've been reading the manga along with it, and 2 volumes practically cover half of the show. Kinda not what I was expecting. Still haven't finished it, but I'm getting to it. It's by far one of the best anime I've ever seen (Production I.G. really outdid themselves. Like whoa), the music's alright I guess except for the opening, which is one of the most adrenaline-pumping pieces of music I've ever heard, and the animation looks good. Acting is so melodramatic, but I like it.
Also, this totally isn't recent, but I've been watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood for the very first time, and whoa. Easily one of my top five. I mean, the first half of the show is about 2x as better as the second half, but it's so well put-together story wise and gradually gives you tidbits of important information at the perfect times. It even had me crying two times. No other anime has ever made me shed tears except for the ending of the Persona 4 anime. It's some good shit, and I would eagerly recommend it to anyone.
Oh yeah, I've also been watching Monogatari Second Season on and off. Stopped watching after Nekomonogatari Black finished, but I plan on finishing it once all the episodes are out. I'll tell you what, they managed to make my least favorite character (Henekawa) actually... good. I really liked her by the end. I mean, she's no Senjougahara or Kanbaru, but she's getting there.
