Recent Zero Punctuation

Hi folks.

Instead of flooding the already flooded thread of Yatzee's review of Monster Hunter Tri, I decided to open up a thread.

Now, many people may have noticed the high post count on the thread. The reason for the high level of posts is because it is extremely obvious that Yaztee did not play past 2 hours (if that much) in the game.
People dislike this because he played a game called MONSTER HUNTER and didn't even talk about hunting monsters.

The amount of time he spent on Monster Hunter brought back memories of FFXIII, which he played for about 5 hours. Many would argue that 5 hours is more than enough time spent playing a game (to at least get a grasp of the mechanics and what the game is about), Yatzee didn't even grace Monster Hunter with 5 hours.


What do you guys think? Should Yatzee have spent more time playing? Do you feel like it is an insult to his fans?



EDIT: Also, this is not about whether or not he liked the game, it is about how much time he spent playing it. Does 2 hours really seem like enough time to you?

I think people take Yahtzee far too seriously. He's here because he provides comedy, not because you should take all his reviews seriously and follow his every recommendation. If it's your favorite game or a game you really like, great! Don't pay attention to him and keep on enjoying your game. It's not like his opinion magically overshadows your own...

I've never watched his stuff for opinions on games, I watch them to chuckle. That happened, I'm not bothered.

I doubt Yahtzee played less than 2 hours. I think it's just the fans being butthurt over the fact that he didn't appreciate the game.

I only watch Yahtzee's videos for amusement, nothing else.

I trust his reviews about as much as Fox News. o shit that rhymed

But yeah, watch for the comedy and not the opinions. I couldn't give a flying fuck about his actual viewpoint, which is why I really don't enjoy Movie Bob or whatever his name is.

At least he tried to play it. He could have just watched some Youtube videos or just gone by the instruction manual. I agree that people take his videos way too seriously though. He's just a critic with a fun way to express his time spent with a game.

soon as I read this I thought, that is definatly the brittney girl/guy

yeah I was annoyed with how little of the game he seemed to play altho for some reason capcom decided to make it much more... I suppose user friendly by having a long tutorial to kinda ease players into it, all the other ones pretty much just throw you into the game with a smack on your ass.

If we were talking about a proper review; Even 5 hours is too little to form a review on really, especially with RPGs which are legendarily long. In an ideal world, I'd rather see people actually complete the game if they're going to review it, although given time constraints, that may not be possible, 5 hours is, however, cutting it short.

Having said all that, though, I don't consider Zero Punctuation a proper review. I don't watch Zero Punctuation for a review. I don't care whether he dislikes a game, infact, he dislikes a lot of games I enjoy. I watch it for it's entertainment value. It's humerous watching him bash games in new and fun ways, even if I enjoy the game, and he doesn't.

Honestly, if it's a bad game, then why continue playing? I really don't see the videos as reviews as much as just Yahtzee's opinion on the game. The difference is that you can form an opinion on a game pretty quickly (like with FFXIII), but to do a review you should beat the game. And just because he doesn't like a game doesn't make it a big deal anyways. Everyone likes they're own type of games. Just because he doesn't like some games in general doesn't mean everyone needs to start whining.

He probably didn't, but I don't care that much. I'll call it unprofessional (as I did with the FF13 review), but the truth is that he's pretty much only there for comedy.

... So? That's his prerogative. The guy's a critic who gets paid to make me laugh, and he achieved that, so if he can create an enjoyable video based on about two hours of gameplay (and thus avoiding subjecting himself any more to a game he apparently doesn't like) then more power to him.

Besides, I played the original Monster Hunter when it came out, and quite a while, too, and he captured the essence of what these games are about perfectly. The monster battles are a small and mostly frustrating portion of the game, and the rest is spent unsatisfyingly knobbing around.

I highly doubt that he only played 2 hours... and even if he did, 2 hours is enough for a game to at least get started. And who really cares? Why would you take his reviews seriously? He tells what's wrong with a game and he's funny about it. It's really not that big of a deal and complaining about it will do absolutely nothing.

I will now point to Fallout 3 and say you are very very wrong.

Im split I did find his review a one note joke which is unusuall for him but...

I played the old monster hunter and it took me well over a week to get to the first real monster(cutcoo) let alone win the game.
