Event Horizon.
Not only is it a really scary movie, it's also well made, unlike most horror movies.

There is a movie that I only saw the climax of,it was in a hospital, with the most horrible thing killing people, and it looked a bit old(2000).I can't tell you it's name but it's really scary.

A Tale of Two Sisters is a good Korean horror film. Won't scare the crap out of you, but it is very well made. Not sure if that one got the crappy English remake treatment...
It did, haven't seen the remake though and the original didn't scare me as I just wondered what thes shit was up. I really didn't fetch the plot before I read a plot summary afterwards. That last part was maybe me but i didn't like the film

The original Psycho, Vertigo, or most other Hitchcock films where the villain isn't an animal.

Seriously, I watch so many horror films that I'm almost completely desensitised, but that was some good shit. It didn't help that I was also in a house on my own for the night haha
I second that... If you can't handle the first half, don't watch the second.

Session 9.
A good creepy movie. There isn't any "jump scares" the entire film is like 89 minutes of suspense followed by 1 minute of payoff. It's pretty cool.

OH GOD!

NO!

NOT THAT!

ANYTHING BUT THAT!

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-

OT: I would say the first movie in most slasher series. While everything after the first one always was scene simple because you got to see people ripped to shreds in interesting ways, the first ones, Nightmere on Elm, Friday the 13th, Etc. all were scary before they were gruesome/ironically funny.

not many movies ever creep me out, but the one that had always stood out was Event Horizon, just something about it.
Welcome to The Escapist, and hell yeah, that movie kicks ass!
Really? I was advised to go and see it because it had "visions of hell to make Dante squirm" or something like that and I found it really rather dull.

Now, John Carpenter's The Thing is a creepy film that will haunt you ... in my opinion, anyway.

The reason Jaws was so effective was that the rubber shark kept breaking down, forcing the production team to use a bit of "shark's-eye view" footage and a lot of footage of open and apaprently featureless water instead of footage of "the shark". This created a lot of movie time in which there were people on-screen unaware of the danger stalking them and the audience knew the shark was out there somewhere but didn't know where until it was too late. Let's just say The Thing does that better.

Films to avoid:

IT because it was CRAP! Read the book. Avoid the film.

Christine because they got it wrong a lot, they oversimplified it, they took away all the characters and reusing the same one tune spoiled the whole reason for having particular tunes coming from the car's radio ... and because it was CRAP. Read the book.

The Blair Witch Project because the first five minutes set up what's going to happen in the last five minutes as clearly as someone early in the morning sets up where the pieces are going to be at the start of a chess game that afternoon, and about as much happens between the two times. In all, three dumb yanks run around in circles in the woods screaming "fuck" at each other, then die.

Anaconda due to the high bullshit content.

Well, horror is definitely subjective. What scares some people will make others laugh...
Anyway, if you want some cringe-inducing, disturbing horror with a little sense of humor, then you could always try the movie Teeth.
It's about a gal who has teeth.
You know.
There.

(Incidentally, this thread is giving me deja vu; did someone else also ask this?)

Lol that film definately has the cringe factor, not so much scary as weird. Will effect men much more than women.

It sure did affect me! I had an urge to forge a metallic armor suit for my dick.

ANNNND I forgot to mention the original Halloween movie. It's NOT a slasher. It's a classic.

Not sure if it's come up before, but I vote for The Grudge 1-3.

It's the type that makes you lose sleep, seriously.

I think The Mist (2007) based off the Stephen King novella was a good horror. It may not have been extremely scary, jumpy or disturbing, but it was really good as a movie and as a well rounded horror. Really what horrors should be about is terror, and this film is the epitome of terror. Be warned, some people hate the ending, but I think it made the movie.
