Greetings Forum,

I'm just beginning my journey into the world of film making by enrolling for the fall semester at the local university for their "Digital Interactive Media" Bach program. It's basically a combination of Film, Web Programming, Graphic Design, and Video Editing.

While I'm very very in tune with the Graphic Design, Programming, and Editing portions of the course I feel I may be lacking depth in the film category. I of course have seen a lot of classic and popular films. Such as Star Wars, Evil Dead, and pretty much any big budget action or comic book film since 1980 however I feel I may have missed out on a lot of more Artsy pictures.

So what do you guys feel are absolute "Must see" films? (With great Cinematography, Writing, or really anything of value that an emerging film student must see.)

Also a side note to the question. Are Casablanca and Citizen Kane really all they are hyped up to be? Are they overrated?

Singin' in the Rain. See this movie! Quite simply, the greatest musical in existence.

Great comedy, writing, dancing, acting, storytelling...everything. Back when you needed talent to be in movies...

"I Not Stupid Too" is a pretty damn good movie. [sub]I might be biased because its made in Singapore >.>[/sub]

Its funny at parts, sad at others, though I suppose some of the comedy might fall flat to non-locals. Don't be put off by the director also being the writer and a star in the show, he's not Tommy Wiseau.

Watch all of the Rocky movies.
It's too bad not every actor can write their own scripts, Stallone treats his movie series with a lot of care.
Sad he didn't treat himself with the same amount of care.

I would sugest looking at "Movie Bob's" video's, he mentions a lot of old classics, as well as some unknown great films while talking about the reviewing movie his currently working with.

Greetings, "Mathew."

Go see Unforgiven if you haven't already. Very well directed and written, and there's an interesting role reversal where the traditional good-guy is the villain and the three people who would normally be cast as evil are put in a sympathetic light.

At first, I was skeptical of adding this to my list. However, after watching the first clip I went ahead and added it straight down. Guess I have an irrational low opinion of musicals.

I was forced to watch it in school.

Glad I did. I never would have watched it, otherwise. No one ever mentions how entertaining the movie is...EVER.

Metropolis, one of the first big sci-fi films I think my teacher said, its a silent film. Its also one of the most expensive silent films made, as the wiki below states,(Then again *shrug* its wiki, as people say).

Fight Club. Excellent cinematography, great actors, superb story, and a ton of easter eggs (supposedly there's a Starbucks cup in every shot).
