Ensiferum, Korpiklaani, Equilibrium.

Join the Folk-Metalers!
Love Equilibrium, You heard their new album?

Listen to The Absence. Melodic death metal at its best.
I haven't heard it yet, I was hoping to get it for christmas but I... didn't. Any good? Lots of people have said it's completely different which is a bit like "oh great". By that I mean I'm not looking forward to a different sound.
As far as can tell their sound is still the same. It's definitely a decent album.
Ah, that's ace. I was definitely going to buy it anyway but at least now I have a motive to :) It might have to wait though, I have an enormous craving to buy Manowar's latest album.

Turbonegro, Ramones, Melt Banana, Misfits are all great if you don't want pop, but don't quite want metal.

Red Hot Chili peppers, Dispatch, Blink-128, Bloc Party, Cake, Gorillaz, The Bravery, Saves the Day, Death Cab for Cutie, Journey, Matchbox 20, Fujiya & Miyagi ( some weird band, but a cool sound), Modest mouse (first couple of albums), Ra Ra Riot, Right Away, Great Captain! (seriously), The summer set, .38 special,

Some of these band are just kind of weird indie bands, and some are well known.

If you want to hear something new I would highly suggest System of a Down, they have a really unique sound, Pretty much everything eles I would suggest has already be mentioned.
Woah boy lets not go crazy here, we're talking about Bands that actually SING right?
YES! I have been waiting to see another user say that!
FYI Both of System of a Down's vocalists sing
I'm not implying that they don't sing. I'm implying that they can't sing. And I couldn't help but chuckle a little when you typed "FYI." I don't know why. Hey, that rhymed!
Actually, though I'm not terribly familiar with System of a Down, I've heard a couple of the songs and at least Serj whatsisname most definitely can sing, he has great pitch and range and demonstrates it repeatedly, but everyone tends to focus on things like Chop Suey where screaming is the norm.

Along these same lines, I would recommend Avenged Sevenfold. I haven't heard their new album, but City of Evil is one of my favorites and it has a sound that can appeal to both mainstream and more selective audiences.

I've heard numerous songs from them, and the sad thing is that I can see that band has very much potential. However, in the vast majority of their songs, the vocals are unbearable. The lead guitarist is outstanding, and the other people on instruments are great as well. Hell, I even kind of like the back-up singer. It's just that the stuff Serj does ruins the sound for me.

The new album is OK and there are some really good songs on the CD but City of Evil is IMO better.

Dream Theater
Ayreon (Especially The Human Equation)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Listen to these especially the bold ones. ESespecially Ayreon they're great, also try their new album 01011001, because it's also amazing, not as much as The Human Equation, but still amazing.

Edit:

If they can't sing, then why are they a multi million selling, mainstream band?
Have you noticed how the words "mainstream" and "suck" tend to go hand in hand in this country (for the record, I live in America").

I thought I was gonna be original and be the one of the first to post some bands that arn't rock this and Metal that, but at least someone else has good taste. I'd also Add.

Arcade Fire
Explosions in the Sky
The Flaming Lips
Hot Chip
Interpol
Kubb
The Last of the Shadow Puppets
Maximo Park
Neutral Milk Hotel
and defiantly Pavement.

Or for something slightly more electro inclined -

Daft Punk, LA Riots, LCD sound systems, MGMT and Mylo

Well i listen alot to the clash right now. But that might not be heavy enough for you (i love it though).

Otherwise theese are some of my fovurite bands (right now):
the misfits.
calabrese.
Creature feature.

A great way to get to know new bands, is to pick compilations of various genres, you usually have an idea of what you get, but youre still in for some surprises (in most cases anyways).

You know who else makes that kind of money? Miley Cryus. Wow, she must be a great musician!

/sarcasm

You do know that you're not going to make me change my opinion about their singing, especially with such a weak argument, right? I don't care how much money they make. I think that every aspect of that band is actually really good. Except the singing, of course. Some people call it innovative; I call it shit.

Am I insulting you for liking them? No. I understand that people like the band's style, and I can respect that. I hate the way they sing, but hey, that's just me. I just don't like them. If you like them, cool, whatever. Just don't get all up in arms because I think their singers aren't good.
I'm not implying that the fact that they are mainstream makes them good, (indeed, using your example, myley cyrus is an example of the usual crap that clogs up the charts)
But its pretty much a fact these days that any mainstream/ chart music is that of acts that can sing (or, indeed are digitally manipulated to sound as if they can) regardless of whether the act is actually musically talented or not. the mainstream generally don't accept metal bands that just scream, therefore my argument proves that they sing, which is what our argument originated as. whether or not they sing well, or whether one likes them or not, is down to individual opinion.

PAIN, the Swedish industrial metal project by Peter Tagtgren. And ONLY Peter Tagtgren. He writes and performs all the vocals and instruments, with the obvious exception of live performances. His songs are incredibly varied and are almost uniformly excellent.
