After playing terrible game after terrible game (Borderlands, GTA IV, Overlord II, Far Cry 2, Prince of Persia, Mirror's Edge,...) and being frustrated for a very long time, I'd love to see a NORMAL game for once, one that's actually good or at least nice (such as Wolfenstein, Dead Space, MGS4, Oblivion, F.E.A.R. 1 & 2, Cryostasis, Demigod, Dawn of War II, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Section 8...).

Can anyone help me out and recommend a game based on the games listed above for me? I'd prefer a game made from 2004-present. I don't care about the graphics.

EDIT: Is Baldur's gate (what particular game), Neverwinter Nights or Red Faction Guerilla any good? I really love games with RPG elements like progression. (Thats why Borderlands disapointed me so much.)

Thank you very much.

You list a whole lot of games as 'terrible' where at least 3 of that list I really enjoyed (mirrors edge, Far cry 2 and PoP), you list good games like dawn of war 2 (broken matchmaking, broken release and boring multiplayer), demoigod (Wasn't as good the wc3 mod it was attempting associate with and has nothing on League of Legends) and bioshock (I suppose after system shock 2 I was always going to be disapointed) which were abysmal (obviously that's my opinion, not a personal stab at you). Perhaps it's a matter of trying to choose games that are to your tastes?

You said you liked Oblivion, Morrowind was it's predecessor and it was far more fun (especially with the bloodmoon expansion) so I'd go ahead and recommend that, if you liked demigod try League of Legends (DotA is the mod both demigod and league of legends borrow ideas from, however the playerbase are mostly dicks and it will be annoying to learn). As far as recent first person shooters go, try killing floor (zombie survival, fun with friends but no singleplayer). I can't think of any others really worth playing recently. Anno 1404 is a really cool game, though the lack of lan option really limits it (the AI are assholes) and it won't appeal to everyone.

You want to play a good game and you deny the greatness of Borderlands, Gta4 and Mirrors edge.
There is nothing better.

As for recent stuff the only thing I could or would recommend is Dragon Age for anything RPG, even if the dragon's theme doesn't appeal to you Bioware makes the most "Fun" games right now. As for not being too pleased with most recent releases, you just joined a very large club. Only other things I can recommend is starting in on Indie Releases like World of Goo, Osmos, Trine ... they are puzzle games but atleast they are origional and fun.

Unfortunately accountants run the game community these days and the two are entirely incompatable. If people would stop buying these half-finished graphical showcases we might actually see some changes in the industry. But until then, don't hold your breath.

You could try Torchlight. I found that one to be incredibly fun, even though it did shamelessly rip off Diablo.

Well, you could try World in Conflict. It is pretty good. Or you could buy Machinarium off Steam and enjoy endless torrent of delightful porn. Scenery porn, that is.

Rollcage: Stage 2. Best racing game ever, even though it's for the PS1.

EDIT: Oops, sorry, didn't read your criteria.
