Hello folks. I've done these sorts of "recommend me" threads for anime series before, but I tend to not like the results. I've figured out the problem; most people recommend Seinen or Shounen, and hardly ever recommend Josei. I've found I quite like the latter and dislike the others (Josei, for those not in the know, is a sub-genre of manga/anime aimed at 18-40 year old women). No one ever seems to talk about them, and they seem to get a fraction of the exposure in discussions.

So, please recommend me some. Less romance fixated, and more of the general stuff, if possible. As a kicking off point, I really liked Pet Shop of Horrors.

Erm, dude, you waited for less than 20 minutes. Give it some more time before giving up. The Escapist is certainly not that busy.

Also, let me bump the thread for you, since I have nothing else to add.

I'd be happy to recommend something if i was familiar with that specific type of anime. However you might want to perhaps try a community with a specific interest in anime. I personally use myanimelist.net when i'm unsure as to what to watch. I did a quick group search with Josei as the key word and found atleat one grouo that would seem to fit your request.

This is an excerpt from the group description

"This club is dedicated to fans of more mature titles that
- require the use of comprehension skills
- give relevant insights
- feature realistic characters and conflicts
- show familiar/mundane subjects and topics in a different light"

Here' a direct link to said group on myanimelist

Hope it helps

Sorry, I was under the impression that once its dropped off the "latest post" panel, or the front page of the forums, it's basically is doomed to die.

That's what bumps are for, just not after 20 minutes. Try 24 hours.

As for Josei anime. Try Cat Street. It sorta toes the line between Josei and Shoujo. The story's pretty good though.

I don't really think that the escapist is the best place to find this sort of thing. Try looking through the Anime News Network's encyclopedia.

I think josei may quite possibly be the least well known form of anime in the west; I definitely didn't know the name for it, although it makes sense that there would be a female equivalent of seinen. Now if you want some seinen recommendations, I'm sure we could hook you up with some good stuff, but I couldn't name a josei if my life depended on it.

Edit: And derp, you mentioned seinen in the OP. At least you get seinen recommendations. In my experience, they only pop up when someone comes into a thread saying "I want to get into anime, but I hate shonen."

Usagi Drop [http://myanimelist.net/anime/10162/Usagi_Drop] and Natsuyuki Rendezvous [http://myanimelist.net/anime/13585/Natsuyuki_Rendezvous] are the only ones that come to mind, and Natsuyuki is currently airing. I'd also say Loveless if you included manga since the anime is a terrible adaption. Not to mention cat ears *points to avatar*

Though that genre isn't my strong suit, and most of the stuff I like from it isn't animated.

Oh and series I haven't watched but heard are good or read the manga: Nana [http://myanimelist.net/anime/877/Nana], Honey and Clover [http://myanimelist.net/anime/16/Honey_and_Clover], andKare Kano [http://myanimelist.net/anime/145/Kare_Kano]

I recommend almost all that have previously been said by other users, so I'm not going to repeat them.
I especially loved Usagi Drop, that show made me tear up.

I read that the anime Shirokuma Café is class as Josei anime. I find that show very relaxing to watch after I come back from work. Anyway here is the trailer-

To sum it up, in that world most animals can talk and work alongside human despite there's a zoo which the animals work there. The show itself pretty much revolve around Panda (the main character) as he hang with Penguin and Polar Bear in his cafe Polar Bear Cafe. It's pretty much a slice of life type of show but it quite funny at times and also very cute if you like Panda.

I honestly have no clue.

I don't really know enough about the Japanese mindset to distinguish between something meant for girls and something meant for adult women.

Here's a great way to find specific anime Genres.

Go to this link "http://www.mangareader.net/search" and tick or cross the appropriate boxes and click search. if you find one that looks decent and falls within your criteria, then google it to see if it as an anime adaptation.

Personally this has helped me heaps. I hope this helps you as well.

I can HIGHLY recommend Nodame Cantabile. Personally it's my favorite anime of all time and it's josei.

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Music

And no, it's not the usual obnoxious romance you usually find in shounen (and even some shoujo) anime. Also, the romance is not the main theme of the show, so don't worry about that, if you're not too much into romance in anime. :)

Thats a new one on me. I have never heard of Josei. I can't help you. If you want any Shoujo or Shounen then I can help you but otherwise good look.
