Now, i'm sure a lot of you will have seen a similar thread before.

However, searching for old threads doesn't let me discuss the pros and cons of the games people recommend with them, so that's why i'm not, before all the "Discussed before, use the search function" posts(as if those people will read the post before posting). Thought i'm sure all you sneaky ironic people will anyway.

Anyway.

I'm looking for a good FPS. Balance in particular.

Don't bother (by which I mean, of course, these are the ones you mention to be clever and ironic)recommending:

Modern Warfare 2. Badly balanced. Don't like the game.
Bad company 2. Played it at a friends. Not a fan.
Modern Warfare 1. At the moment, this is what I usually play, and have played a lot. This doesn't mean you need to recommend a similar game. I'm becoming tired the game though. The overpowered tactics and weapons(the M16, snipers etc) get on my nerves, and i'm getting tired of the maps.
Left 4 Dead. Really good fun with friends, but i'm wanting online versus/competitive.

So, recommend me a new FPS. With the recommendation I'd like to hear about any problems and common complaints with that game.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm not able to play PC games just now.

Edit 2: I want a game with good balanced multiplayer. A good story is a bonus, but there are lots of good single player games, so i'm currently looking for a well balanced multiplayer.

Metro 20- oh you mean multiplayer?

Get Team Fortress 2. It's the most balanced multiplayer game I can think of.

Problem solved.

Team Fortress 2 might be what you're looking for.

Balanced classes that play off of each other beautifully, and gameplay that is both parts entertaining and additctive.

The only real drawback comes from which platform you choose to play it on, as the consoles are lacking when in comparison to the PC.

You might want to try the old battlefield games - 1942 and BF 2- also World at War is quite good. If you like L4D you will love Killing Floor.

I wouldn't be able to play team fortress 2 on the PC. In what way does it suffer on a console, and will this be much of an issue? Is it just a lack of mods?

Edit:

Probably should have cleared this up in the OP. I can't play on the PC. As far as I can see, battlefield games, and killing floor are both on the PC.

I'm looking for something more similar to CoD than L4D though. I'm not bored playing L4D with friends, so I don't really need a replacement there.

The PC version has gone through huge updates and the community is a lot bigger.

Do you know if the console version still balances well without the updates?

Yeah, the game was always perfectly balanced in it's original state, there's just so much more stuff in it now.

Does it have much replayability in the original?

Quake Live?
That and possibly Bioshock 2's multiplayer although I never use it because of Team Fortress 2 and you'll miss out on a lot if you don't play the first Bioshock.

Quake Live - browser based FPS that is pretty much Quake 3 Arena.
UT99 (the original Unreal Tournament) I believe is still up and running.
UT2004 I think is pretty dead, except for people playing TAM (Team Arena Master) game type.

Killing Floor is pretty fun to play with friends.
