Okay, a little bit of background here. I've got a bit of money to spend so why not buy another game for my collection? I've just come out the other side of a three month Morrowind playthrough however and I'm looking for something fresh or different to play, preferbly not an RPG for the time being.

If I had to narrow this down to a couple of categories, I'd probably eliminate RTS games as well, to be honest I'm really in the mood at the moment for a really well done FPS, maybe even an FPS/RPG.

I have been eying off the current Arkham Asylum/Just Cause Steam deal, but apart from that, does anyone have any suggestions for an awesome game that I could pick up? I know I'm being a little vague, but if you've had a blast with a game recently and want to share, this is the place to post about it.

EDIT: Just to clarify a couple of things - firstly, I'm definitely not opposed to older titles. Go back into the 90's if you have a valid suggestion.

Secondly, I'm probably just looking for a single player game, TF2 and L4D2 have got all my online requirements tied up.

Thirdly, some of my favourite games are Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, System Shock 2, Psychonauts, Hitman: Blood Money, the Half-Life series; etc, so I'm pretty open to any type of game.

I'd get Arkham Asylum... though I played it with a controller cause I thought the mouse/keyboard port was a tad shoddy. Wasn't that bad really, but it felt a little funny.

Metro 2033. Preorder now and get RFG for free. Trust me you will not regret it as both of those games are/going to be great!

It'd probably be a good idea to post what games you have:

Games said:
Left 4 Dead 2
6.5 hrs on record

Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools

Mass Effect
32.4 hrs on record

R.U.S.E. Beta

Source SDK
5.1 hrs on record

Team Fortress 2
324.3 hrs on record

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
107.6 hrs on record
Out of that lot... a Half Life boxset?

I've just picked up Bad Company 2, although I've not had a chance to play it yet so I don't know if it's any good.

Psychonauts or Saints Row 2 if you want something a little older?

That's very true. Keep in mind though that my current Steam library is much smaller than my actual collection of games, I only started to play over Steam very recently. I've played through all the Half-Life games released to date, though I'm ashamed to add through not quite legal methods. Hopefully I'll be able to buy Episode 3 (when its finally released) or maybe even Portal 2 to make up for it.

Keep in mind that any suggestions don't necessarily have to be new titles, some of my favourite games are older titles, I'll update the OP.

And yes, I have played Psychonauts, and it was awesome.

Mass Effect and its sequel, or Fallout 3. Both RPGs but still. They're my favourite games ever.

Get Dark Messiah of Might and Magic -you won't find better first-person storytelling / athmosphere, and the rpg-aspects are well placed, but not overwhelming. Should also be cheap and available over steam.

Fallout 3 best rpg I've ever played role-playing wise.
Huge map, incredible atmosphere, tons to do and a good 150 hours of game play, if you rush
