I really need a good rpg to keep me occupied and entertained right now as i have been playing the crap out of shooters (l4d2, tf2, fear) recently and am getting bored. Problem is, im very fussy about my rpgs and i find it hard to enjoy one, but when i do, i can pull many all nighters playing it.

I played dragon age recently (origins and awakening) and i really enjoyed it, played almost 200 hours total on it. But after that, i decided to try older titles, planescape torment and baldurs gate since they got really good reviews and i quit after literally about 2hours, found them to be too boring.

ps. i didnt like oblivion and the mass effects series too, so this might be a tough one ;p

EDIT: yes i have played all the pokemon games and ive enjoyed them.

Fallout 3. Beware of the bugs, though, the games a bit glitchy, but aside from that it's a really good game.

Deus Ex is currently on a 10th anniversary sale on Steam.
Go get it. And get the bundle with the sequel while you're at it; it isn't even nearly as horrible as some puritans would like you to believe.

Ball in a Cup FTW!!!!

Seriously though. You may like FableII though I think both Oblivion and the Mass Effect games are better but it does have that high fantasy setting.

If you didn't like Oblivion you really may not like Fallout 3 as they are very similar in many ways.

Hmmmmmm . . .

Someone said Tales of Vesperia and that was one of the Best JRPGs of this console gen, if you like JRPGs you may try that. It's like Final Fantasy games used to be and has a really good sense of humor.

This hasn't been the best console generation for RPGs really. You may want to go back to "classics" like FFVI (III in America) or ChronoTrigger or Eearthbound etc. It depends on what kind of graphical downgrade that you're willing to take.

I second Tales of Vesperia or its predecessor Tales of Symphonia. They're both very long, challenging RPGs, with deep stories and interesting characters. Maybe the Fable series as well, but they aren't quite as deep. I still liked them a lot though.

As for anything else, my favorite games ever are probably Morrowind/Oblivion/Fallout3 so I'm not really sure how my tastes would help you out.

Have you tried KotOR or KotOR 2 yet? Both are quality games.
Also Jade Empire is a fantastic RPG which are all made by Bioware :D

What they said. Go for the Tales series. Hopefully we can get enough people playing the games to communicate to Namco that we want a Tales of Graces port...

I used to get those demo CDs from Playstation magazine when I was a kid. I had a fun time with them. Try a demo.

Hmmm... I know this may seem like a dumb question, but have you tried any of the old school Final Fantasies? If you like turned-based combat then I think you should try the original FF Tactics for the Playstation (that is if you have a PS or PS2)

Persona 4 is the best RPG I've ever played. It'll definitely keep you busy. Story is great, characters are all lovable, battles are fun and challenging and the fusion system is deep. I really can't recommend this game enough. It's a near perfect experience.

Penumbra: Black Plague would have to get my vote. It's only about 6 hours long, but a *very* dark, creepy title. Penumbra: Overture (the first in the series - Black Plague is the 2nd) is able to be downloaded free, and Penumbra: Requiem can be bought in a bundle with Black Plague. All 3 are well-worth playing, though BP is by *far* the scariest and most atmospheric of the trio.

Actually, most of the people I know who hated Oblivion, really liked Fallout 3. The biggest complaint most people had about Oblivion was the combat and they greatly improved it for F3.

It's a little more shooter than rpg (whereas fallout 3 is a little more rpg than shooter) but you might like Borderlands.

I've picked up Sacred 2 again recently: that one's good if you want a diablo style game.

Still, Fallout 3 is at the top of my recommendations.
