Gyromancer's on Steam for £11. I mean, it's almost under a tenner.

Might try to find a copy of FFVII for the PC, but good luck with that, you're probably better off sailing the seven seas, kissing wenches on the mouth and drinking rum.

Baldur's Gate Doesn't really look like a JRPG to me.
That's because it's a WRPG.
I C Wat U Did Dere.

in other words, Finding FFVII on the PC legitimately is like searching for a balloon after releasing it into the infinite sky. The game wasn't even successful on the PC (although it was a pretty good port).
<- Had a legitimate copy

Then my brother's girlfriend stole it and I never got it back :(
I knew someone who had a copy.

Honestly, if I hadn't seen it way back then with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it existed. I think they brought VIII to the PC as well, but stopped at IX.

A good JRPG on PC? Besides the crappy port of Final Fantasy VII (which is one of the best games of all time in its original form, and its PSN re-release), there's not much there. Unless you emulated Final Fantasy VI (another one of the best games ever made), but that, of course, is illegal.

I would also recommend The World Ends With You. One of the best games I have ever played. But it's on the DS, so not in your area, I suppose.

*cough* I had a copy of FFVIII for the PC too. That one got destroyed over the test of time and my younger siblings generally being dicks with my CDs.

JRPGs do tend to be console based. However Final Fantasy VII and VIII do exist for PC, but are a bit dated graphically. Baldur's Gate, or anything else from BioWare or Bethesda are WRPGs, because they're about all the Western World has to offer.

It would help if I knew a little more about what you want from a game as the best JRPGs tend to be those partially exploring more metaphysical concepts.
I don't know JRPGs at all thats why I'm doing this.

you want... a PC JRPG under 10 sollars?

Uhhh, Puzzle Quest?

Seriously, that's a really esoteric order.
Negative on the first part. Under 10 Pounds Sterling! I'm English, It's Boadicea!!

I'm limiting it to PC because I am trying something I have never tried before so I want to do it on a familiar device (also I'm not playing £400 for a console just to do one review).

I'l have a look and see what I can find. I can probably stretch to £11.

If you don't play many JRPGs then how do you know you'll even like most of them. Your opinion is still as biased as anyone elses!

Besides from my experience you need to play JRPGs a LOT to really get to the good part, and you sound as though you intend to review a lot. In conjunction with your lots of work you're going to be really busy, if anyone can actually find a JRPG on PC.

You're pretty much confined to the PC version of FF7 and emulators :p
The Idea that I had here was that as an outsider to JRPGs, I have no preconceptions and don't know whether I like them or not. That way I can give my honest opinions of the game without being biased by automatically disliking anime or that kind of thing. Of course I have other biases, so does everyone, I'm just saying I have no opinions yet on JRPG games.

Thanks to everyone so far, I'l look through these recommendations and see if I can get hold of any of them. If I still can't decide I'l make it a pole later.

I recommend downloading an SNES simulator and playing Lufia 2 and Lufia 1. Play 2 first, then one.

Lufia 2 is actually the prologue to Lufia 1.

For more concise information about the game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lufia_%26_The_Fortress_of_Doom

Actually, I can think of Console-RPG (JRPG) style games on PC in the Laxius Power series, even though they're not commerically produced. They have a very traditional Console RPG feel, the requisite action, puzzle and strange world elements although they are fairly NSFW, which isn't usually the case with a JRPG. JRPGs are primarily console-based, just as Western ones are primarily PC-based.

This section of Wikipedia may explain some things, but if you're looking to go in with a naive perspective, you may not want to read it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_differences_in_role-playing_video_games

Some Free console-RPGs here, but they're mostly not quite professional quality: http://download.cnet.com/windows/console-style-rpg/

You aren't going to find any on the PC unless you use an emulator which I wouldn't recommend as it is illegal.

but if you so choose get SNES9x and get Chrono Trigger as it is a great JRPG that is really accessible by anyone and I can't think of anything negative about it, prefect blend of epic, silly and fun.

So many limits. There aren't many good JRPGs on PC. Especially without making an account. So yeah, I've got nothing.

do you own any consols at all? Your not really an outsider looking in, your someone on another planet
No I don't. I used to own a gameboy if that counts but those days are long gone.

Well actually I do have a PS2 but I have no controllers, no screen, no memory cards and I don't know if it works. I will be ruling that out for this review as it would probably cost less to just buy a new one than to get the stuff individually and because I hate console controls.

Then looks like you really cant review it, since you cant play true JRPGs
Theres been a few PC ones listed so far, I'll look into them and review the most recomended one that fits the conditions.

...this. Chrono Trigger just might be the best J-rpg ever.

But seriously Flames, you're not going to have a very good selection if you're looking for a legit copy of a J-rpg on a pc. There might be two. And if you're fresh to the genre, I'd hate for you to have a bad experience with one be cause it isn't the creme of the crop, it'd probably be a waste of your time.
