Before you post your top 10 all time favorites, lemme go ahead and narrow the spectrum to a good laser focus:
-has to have a seriously long play time
-available on DS, 360, PS3, PC, GBA
-could find it preowned or low price
-if it has online play, PS3 is preferred
-downloadble titles acceptable
-no MMOs
-RPG is okay
-can be shallow or deep
-no Kinect or Move titles (there's one PS3 move game I want and it's the one that made the Wii profitable, NMH Paradise)
-can have high octane action, slow paced puzzles, and places where I should think before acting(preferred)

Okay that's probably all I need, the budget thing is because I'm still in Highschool, I haven't been to the bank in awhile, and I want a game that will entertain me for a long time so it doesn't feel like I buy a video game as soon as im bored. Handheld is acceptable no PSP though. Thank you 'scapists.

Portal 2 and Saints Row 2. I can't comfortably recommend GTA IV to anyone who is looking for fun.

It would help if you told us what you already have. Anyway, both Mass Effect games on any console, not sure which is the best, Red Dead Redemption, Just Cause 2, Lost Odyssey is a great RPG if you can handle a small bit of Japanese influence, and you should get the Banjo-Kazooie games off XBLA.

Pokemon Red - for the GBA, natch
I'd say Pokemon Crystal, although you can't go wrong with Gen. 1.

Also, Metroid Fusion.

NIER, for either X-box 360 or Ps3. Only twenty bucks, and quite possibly the best game I've played in a while. If you skip the sidequests, it can be a bit on the shorter side, but there's four endings, and you need to collect every weapon in order to access one or two of them so it should last you a while.

Red Dead Redemption is 27 used at Gamestop, and is easily one of the best games this console generation. There is way too much to do in it for you to not play it for eons. And it's really fantastic and the best cowboy simulator ever made.

Alpha Protocol (spy rpg sort of mass effecty some bugs and lack of polish but good) and you can likely pick it up pretty cheap.

Advent Rising is another good game, some bugs and targeting issues but it's an underrated gem if you ask me. You can pick it up at Gog.com [http://www.gog.com] for like ten bucks

I think you could get S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat for like $10. It's a completely unique survival FPS with an amazing atmosphere and it'll take you a while to complete.

Just find it awesome that two of the post in this topic recommend those two games =D

Even though I'm not sure if I agree with either because they were asking for a long game in the topic post even though Alpha Protocol is highly replayable it is short. Nier is awesome but I think is a bit of an acquired taste and isn't that long if you skip the side quests. And to get the other endings you have to replay the second half of the game twice (even though it is DEFINITELY WORTH GOING THROUGH AT LEAST ONCE THE SECOND HALF AGAIN IN NIER PROBABLY ONE OF THE COOLEST EXPERIENCES VIDEO GAME WISE.)

I say Dragon Age Origins or either of the Fallout 3/new vegas because all three are huge and good games. (even though I don't like FF3 as much as New Vegas probably because I played the first two...)

Ya I found myself replaying alpha protocol over and over, different characters different choice options. For me the most surprising moment was being raped by a Russian Milf.

Jedi Academy for PC, the second most fun I ever had in an online multiplayer experience. FFA, no force/no guns FTW.

Dragon Age is good stuff.

That's about all I got right now, personally I feel good games are about 1 in 1,000,000 these days.

Red Read Redemption will rock your socks off, if you can get it for less than $50, you're getting a bargain. Long, fun, satisfying, beautiful to look at, fantastic characters, emotional ending.

I've only played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, but I was amazed by how enjoyable it is, and would certainly recommend it.

Also, it's one of the scariest games I've ever played, and it's not even a horror game. Perhaps that's why.

And finally, a recommendation of my own.

MOUNT&BLADE WARBAND!

I've sunk more hours in this game than I'd care to count, but I have to, because Steam keeps track of it. Let's just say the number is in the hundreds.

It's cheap, it's downloadable, it's on PC, it's an RPG, it looks like crap, it has one of the best combat systems I've ever played with, and it's awesome. You want re-playability? Buy this game.

I'm pretty sure she is German not Russian. But yeah, the game is really quite replayable even though the missions are incredibly linear.

BTW, you should consider the Deus Ex games probably even the third one coming out for they are excellent action RPGs. The choices are morre like Bioware where only the choice at the end really matters for the story for the first two but they both have much less linear levels than Alpha Protocol and both have cool hub areas.

Oh, that reminds me, Topic poster if you haven't played it get Deus Ex for the PC. Probably one of the best games and a prequal is coming out in a few months.

Oh hells yeah. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC and CoP are brilliant in so many ways, but you'll want to avoid Clear Sky.

Dawn of War Dark Crusade and Company of Heroes are great real time strategy games. They have a lot of replay value due to many different units, map layouts, strategies etc and Dawn of War is set in the Warhammer 40'000 universe, which is awesome.

Metro 2033 has one of the greatest FPS campaigns I've ever played, but it is a little short.

Deus Ex is old but is a total gem. You'll either love it or hate it but you can get it for like 5 bucks.

Brunout Paradise, can't tell you how much fun i have had with that game, its just never-ending for me, Racing, crashing and pulling off some crazy stunts.

The new version gives you motorbikes for free(not ask good as racing cars as it is time trial races only) but still fun.

Online is really fun too.

Its PS3 only i think

Fallout 3/Oblivion (Meaning both, not making that old immature joke that F3 is oblivion with guns)can be quite long if you make them (I.E. doing side missions, like to explore stuff, etc). Red Dead Redemption is amazing, although you do spend about two fifths of the game in Mexico.

Hahaha! I was gonna say the exact opposite. No offence intended, but I found GTA 4 fun as (Well, when not doing a fair share of the main missions).
