Don't watch anime. You're not that desperate, surely.
*cough* [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CowboyBebop] *hack* [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HigurashiNoNakuKoroNi] *wheeze* [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FullMetalAlchemist] *vomits* [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Monster] *coughs up blood* [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TengenToppaGurrenLagann] *collapeses* [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Planetes] *coughs up lung* [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Gush/AnimeAndManga]
My apologies, it appears your generalized bashing of a medium from nowhere has induced a strong rage-based reaction. I'm going to the hospital (read: pictures of kittens) now.

OP: Try one of those shows I linked to, or if not, just that site itself.

Edit: It appears your bashing was somewhat provoked, but I collapsed on the ground and coughed up a lung all the same.
Well I am pleased with Cowboy Bepop, but am ashamed of you because that list there included no Trigun. I'm sorry, I don't think I can take any of your suggestions.
*appendix explodes* [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Trigun]
Is that better?
Yeah!
Now recommend me an anime series that would take a lot of thought, that maybe I can keep watching... drum roll... NEXT WEEKEND!

For fun? Learn to solve a Rubik's cube, try Dan Harris's site. It makes for a cool party trick.
I don't own a Rubik's Cube :(
There aren't that much and are available at pretty much every big box store (Walmart Target, etc..) Seriously, it makes for a fun and cheap hobby. There are even sizable online communities dedicated to twisty puzzles, and competitions for who can solve it the fastest (record is around 7 seconds at a competition).

Not entirely sure by what you mean by a lot of thought. If you mean thinking, apparently Noein [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Noein] is complex and full of quantum mechanics. If by obscurity/consideration for recommendation, Scrapped Princess [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ScrappedPrincess]?

Try getting a girlfriend...
This entire thread could have seriously ended right there. I just got back from hanging out with my girlfriend, one of the best ways to waste time ever. Just sit back with someone you love and do whatever it is you feel like doing together. It's amazing.

So yeah, spending time with a girlfriend is the best recommendation I can give.

read a good classic piece of literature. I suggest the case book of Sherlock Homes. Bloody good read.

Context, people. CONTEXT.

I'm not bashing anime as such, I'm suggesting to the OP that maybe watching cartoons on TV is possibly not the best possible use of his time if he's keen for something new and interesting to do.
Man, now yr bashing cartoons! What the hell's the matter with you?

i would say go get a new book maybe a sci-fi or...a fantasy novel...something that may have action or dragons is always good.
