After running out of games to play (and eagerly waiting all the releases announced at E3) I decided to dig out my old PS1 and play some old games on it. I found a place which sells loads of old PS1 games and I decided that I need some recommendations!

So far, I've managed to find Ape Escape, Dragon Valor and Rival Schools from my own collection.

If you like stealth, I found Tenchu: Stealth Assassins and Syphon Filter to be awesome. The early Tony Hawk Pro Skater games are great, especially 2 and 3. Oh, and if you see The Adventures of Alundra, grab it! It's one of the best adventure games I've ever played - it plays a lot like the pre-fancy-graphics Zelda games. Bushido Blade is also great. Man, I'm going to go on for hours if I'm not careful. Which genres do you like and dislike?

EDIT - Destruction Derby 2 has arrived late into my thoughts, missing a wheel and most of its paintwork.

Harry Potter 1 & 2, Digimon World, Digimon Rumble Arena (that's right, tie-in games weren't shit back then. Well, not all of them anyway), Micro Machines, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4.

These were just some of my personal favourites, but the fact that I STILL play some of them on my PS3 shows their lasting capability.
Also, the fact that you have access to a place that sells PS1 games makes me too envious to even come up with a clever metaphor for how envious I am.

Thanks for the suggestions. Reading the lists gave me sweet sweet nostalgia. I remember playing a lot of these games, I just can't seem to find them.

I prefer action games and RPGs. I like most things really, just not sports or racing games.

Nobody mentioned Final Fantasy IX? Okay, Final Fantasy IX. Somehow, it's underrated.

[sub]also Wip3out and Vib-Ribbon.[/sub]

Final Fantasy IX and James Pond 2 are the only ones I can think of that haven't already been mentioned.

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen, and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Both are good action adventure games with good story to boot.

Blood Omen is proper vintage gaming, but the gameplay might have taken a knock over the years (depends on you're tolerance). Soul Reaver has that awkward 3D transition issue of shoddy camera angles, but has the better story (or at least, better developed and presented).

2 of my favourites games from that era, though I had the former on PC and only got the latter on Dreamcast.

Spyro the Dragon 1 2 and 3

The first one is horrendously cheesy but overall they're still pretty fun.

RPGs, eh? PS1 was renowned for its RPG library.

Final Fantasy Tactics, if you like strategy RPGs
Suikoden 1 and 2 if you want a good JRPG. S1 is a little rough, as it was made in 1995, but it leads into S2, which is absolutely amazing.
Breath of Fire 3 and 4 were enjoyable, too.

I concur on the Legacy of Kain series. Also Bushido Blade 1 and 2, Vice City, and most of the incarnations of Street Figther (Can't remember their names specifically).

Edit: Oops, snuck vice city in there, ps2 game actually... been so long now.

Chrono Cross. Excellent RPG with over 40 playable characters!
Oh jeez, how did I forget to list that one?

If nothing else, the music to Chrono Cross is phenomenal.

Well Final Fantasy IX, that being the only FF game on the PSX I actually liked (even then I never bothered to beat it), and speaking of JRPGs...

Tales of Destiny and Tales of Eternia. I haven't played either, but I played their successors, which are absolutely amazing, and I've heard that ToD and ToE are pretty damn good too. (Note: Eternia was named "Tales of Destiny 2" in its Stateside release. Then Japan made an actual Tales of Destiny 2... Funny how shit like this works.)
