STALKER, definitely.
A million times this. STALKER is in my opinion the most interesting new series to emerge from the FPS genre in the past few years, and it's a quintessential PC game; A bit rough around the edges, but unique, so it stands out among the many bland military shooters that saturate the genre nowadays. The games also have a vibrant modding community.

Shadow of Chernobyl is the first game in the series, and a good place to start. It's a little buggy and hasn't aged so well graphically, but there are a wealth of good mods for it. If you get this game, I strongly recommend the Complete 2009 overhaul [http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009] (soon to be updated, hence the 2012 banner), it touches up the game in a multitude of ways (especially sounds and visuals, which are vastly improved) without changing the fundamentals much, making it ideal for a first playthrough. This is a gameplay video I made of it some time ago, I think it's a good example:

Clear Sky is a prequel to SOC. I found it to be pretty hit and miss, to be honest. It's buggy and parts of it feel outright unfinished. Give it a miss unless you're already a hardcore fan of the series.

Call of Pripyat is the sequel. I think it's the definitive STALKER experience. The gameplay is more refined and well balanced, the engine less buggy than the other two games, the quests more interesting, and it hasn't lost any of the atmosphere that made the first game what it is. I'll let the trailer sum it up.

It's a toss-up between Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat. The former has better mods (at least for now), but the latter is a better experience out of the box.

That was fast. But you escapists here don't know crap about stabbing backs you little sissies hahaha...Aw my back.
But still why not play Starcraft 2 even if you hate RTSes you'll love SC2 it is just that good of a game.
You're implying I haven't already.I just don't want a plethora of Stracraft 2 replies,I want new games.
ok so only games i can recomend you besides RTS games are mass effect 1&2 and dragon age both were made with the pc in mind then converted to consoles:)
as to the RTS games id recomend:
age of empires 1&2 you can get both and expantions for them for $20
C&C the first decade
Rise of Nations and its expantions

Hope this helps:)

Um...WoW,actually anything from blizzard,Torchlight,The Thief series is something i recently discovered Thief 1 wouldn't run on my computer but Thief 2 with a little online help runs fine and Thief 3 runs no problem though it has nice graphics too. Those are only exclusives like you wanted but there are some multiplatformers that are better on PC like Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2
Yeah, I don't really want an exclusive, anything is fine, as long as it isn't made first and firmost for consoles and THEN adapted for pc.PC controls need to be in the dev's head first so that it won't suck in my opinion.

Any genre besides heavy and long strategy, I have found one game that filled my requirement.

All of the mixed up games have disapointed me, meaning games that could have been better but where tuned down so console fanboys can play them (looking at BFBC2 specifically, why the hell can't you be just BF2 with better graphics?)

Oh,and if you say "Star----2" I will stab you.[sub][sub][sub]no, really[/sub][/sub][/sub]

*EDIT* Oh sorry,to help you out, these are some I have already played : Fallout 3, Dragon Age, Anno ----, Stronghold Crusader, NFS (most) , Bioshock, Alien Swarm, tons and tons of free MMO's.

So far from your recommendations I really am interested in The Witcher.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Clear Sky, Soc and CoP) or Metro 2033.
You dont need more for the next 6 and a half years. After your eight replay, get mods.
Also A source game. Why? FOR MODS!@#@!@
My favorite source mod is Zombie Panic.
Metro also has mods?

Yes it did,I should have explained better, that's what I really wanted, a game developed first of all for pc then adapted for consoles not the other way around.

I was just wondering about STALKER myself. Now, i'm not getting a very high grade laptop and i'm not sure what the spec's are gonna be for it yet since i'm getting it from my cousin but i was wondering how well they run on a medium to low grade laptop.

I was originally just going to play classic games which i've never played before on the laptop like Baldurs Gate but then i saw STALKER and thought it looked quite good.

If your laptop is considered good by today's standards it's highly likely it'll run the STALKER games pretty well. Shadow of Chernobyl is probably the least demanding, but all three use the same engine, the subsequent games just have some improvements and extra bells and whistles (which can always be switched off for better performance).

Sid Meier's Pirates! Live the Life is a really good simulation game, and I think it's only $20 on Steam.

Beyond that... UHHH...

Titan Quest is a cool dungeon-crawler style game. It's like Diablo, but better.

That's about all I can think of for somewhat recent good exclusives (that I've played). Battlefield 3, whenever it releases, is going to be extremely tailored for PC - DX11, multithreading, super high details, huge battles online. It shall be glorious.
Too bad it is on consoles too.

Well I'm really, really into strategy games, so I've got tins of those to recommend. I'd say the one that most people would like though is World in Conflict or Company of Heroes. Although the Total War games are my favorite.

And oh yes, Moonbase Alpha, can't forget the awesomeness that is that simulation game /sarcasm

grab rome total war or empire total war then. also a great game once you understand it is sins of a solar empire. if you are looking rts at least might as well check out warcraft 3 tft company of heroes and supreme comander forged alliance. if you fancy rpg/ mmorpg i would subjest starting out with the cheapie but golden guild wars. you can't beat the price and it is a freeman's wow so the speak. (VERY VERY GOOD) another game to tryout besides tf2 l4d l4d2 or the valve titles is the battlefield series... on another note if you want classic fun i mean fun and the enjoyment of building your own rollercoaster theme park try roller coaster tycoon. It is easily one of the most well designed series to date.

Yes... so what? I didn't say this one was a PC exclusive.

They've said they're making Battlefield 3 as a PC game primarily, and going to optimize it as much as they can in that regards. They're heavily focusing on DX11 implementations. Consoles do not have DX11, aren't they on DX9 or something? The console ports will be significantly gimped. This isn't like, say, Transformers or MW2 or Bad Compay 2 which are console games being ported to PC. BTW, BF:BC2 is meant as a console game while the "pure" Battlefield games are meant for PC but obviously there's a big market on consoles too so they will port it over for the money.

I do not know if you were trying to be rude or not, but you came off like that to me. To me, I find when FPSs are on console, they tend to miss things. Now this said, if it as mainly PC, then why not make it for the PC only?
Oh, and the console only have DX9 as the Xbox uses a 7800 (?).
