The Elder Scrolls series have many great games, but the real benefit of them is the mods and add-ons people have put together for them. I'd suggest checking them out.

If you are into horror then I highly recommend Amnesia: The Dark Descent. THE scariest game i've ever played.
Also The Longest Journey if you like point and click adventures.

Supreme Commander one and it's expansion,Forged Alliance. Trust me,AWESOME game. RTS warfare on an infinite scale,81*81 kilometer maps, orbital view if you want it. It's game of the century, for me.

Yeah, I checked and i can run crysis 2 on highest graphic settings( borrowed from my cousin for the night )

If you want great visual details to test your new system, I would recommend GTA4 with ENB series mod as well as some other mods.
Crysis 1 and 2 also have some great tweaks and mods that really improve their visuals.

Heard nothing but bad things about the 590. I hope yours is okay. Also, daayum, that must've cost fuckloads.

All of the good games have already been said but:

Crysis
Dragon Age: Origins and 2
Baldur's Gate 1&2
Call of Duty 4.

no company of heroes? all you strategy gamers have no taste
I'm new to pc gaming also. What's the scoop on Company of Heroes ?
It's a great RTS game based on the second world war. The SP campaign is hard but very good and extremely satisfying and the multiplayer is good fun. I recommend it. Also, if you've played Dawn of War 2, it's like that but more buildings.

Hmmm, I was thinking more... Heating problems. Try Crysis. That's the game that has the highest graphical load... I think anyway. That or Warhead. I want to get Warhead but I was expecting a Steam sale due to the release of Crysis 2.

Atom Zombie Smasher on Steam. It's only ?10 on Steam. It's a fun little strategy game with a nice dash of humour. If you're on the fence, just grab the demo. Also, Minecraft. The browser version does the full game no justice whatsoever.

All genres
I think I can accomadate you there.

WARNING: many of the following are what may be reffered to as "oldies", if you are of the "Graphics are king!" persuasion I hate you and many of the following may not appeal to you.
Some may also be a pain to get running, if it's on Good Old Games they'll probably have fixed the issues though.

Shooters:
Painkiller(for mindless action)
Sniper Elite(for sniping, duh)

RPGs:
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2(get the restoration mod for 2, trust me)
Baldur's Gate Collection
Icewind Dale
Planescape Torment
Fallout 1 & 2
Arcanum of Steamworks and Magic Obscura(great concepts but woefully underdeveloped, still worth checking out)

FPS RPGs:
Morrowind
Oblivion
Deus Ex(if you enjoy it get "the nameless mod", it's... something)
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines(amazing if unfinished game, may be hard to get to run on 7 though)
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
S.T.A.L.K.E.R(so it's not an RPG, sue me)

Strategy (we're in MY house now!):
Men of War(just about the best WW2RTS ever made, with just about the worst voice acting ever recorded for an RTS)
Star Wars: Empire At War
Dawn of War + Winter Assault + Dark Crusade - Soulstorm (trust me)
Company of Heroes + opposing Fronts
Rome: Total War + Barbarian Invasion + Alexander + a metric ton of mods
Medieval 2: Total War + Kingdoms
Kings Bounty (TBS)
Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne
Impossible Creatures(Geneticly splice creatures together and then force them to kill your enemies? Fear my Scorpiphant!)

Other(those that either defy genre or I just couldn't think of enough to justify a segment):
Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale(run an item shop, be a patron to adventurers, capitalism ho!)
Dungeon Keeper(dissagree and I'll give you a good right clicking)
The Void(Odd indie title, check it out on Wiki if you're interested)
Iji(awesome Metroid style indie game, best part is it's free!)
Go Beryllium(another free indie game, it's a bullet hell game with dynamic music, a bit like Rez)
The Longest Journey(point and click, great charecters, writing and dialogue)
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey(sequal to the above)
Penumbra(Scary as hell FPS/survival horror/point and click adventure game)
Amnesia: The Dark Descent(FP horror game from the makrs of the above)
Call of Cthullu: Dark Corners of the Earth(Scary as hell)

That should be enough to keep you going, have fun! :)

Hey, thanks.
I'm not one of them "graphics are king" types, games can be good even with the most horrible graphics
That list up there will keep me going for an extremely long time hopefully

No problem, always happy to help a fellow gamer broaden their horizons.

Another mixed Genre game that I forgot - Battlestations: Midway

It's a WW2 strategy game where you command a fleet of Battleships, Aircraft Carriers and submarines.
You can take direct control of them for precise aiming and unorthadox tactics.

And two RTSs I forgot Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander, you controll giant armies
of mecha several hundred strong, be warned though matches can take hours especially in the latter.

EDIT: whoops how did I forget this one?

The Mechwarrior Series - Basically a giant mech sim, great fun if a little awkward to get used to.
Mechcommander - An RTS set in the same universe as the above using the same customisable giant mechs (be warned you WILL need to tweak this one to get it working, luckily it's a simple fix)
