I was watching my bro play some GTA IV on the PS3. Now I'm in the mood for a good third-person shooter, preferably with a good cover system. I've played Red Dead Redemption, Dead Space games, Resident Evil games, and Gears of War games to name a few. I would prefer it if the suggestions are not Tom Clancy games, and the I would prefer it if it was PC or 360.

Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2 are pretty good. They are RPG's primarily, though. (At least the first one is)
Mass Effect is much better, but less action-y.

Mafia 2 is good.

Also, serious sam HD. You can play that in third person and it looks hilarious.

And Vanquish.

Why not Tom Clancy games?
'cause Splinter Cell Conviction is damn good, you can even play the co-op campaign with your brother.

I played Mass Effect 2 on the 360, and forced myself to beat it because of buyer's remorse. I honestly disliked it a lot, the setting was very empty and boring for me, the load times were huge, and the fact that there was 3 story missions in total bugged me a lot.

Uncharted looks really good, but since I respect that he doesn't play the 360 I won't ask to play on the PS3. I heard both Vanquish and Mafia II were linear and short, but I will still look into them for rents. I haven't heard a lot of Conviction but I will look into that also.

You have no idea what you're talking about do you?

Anyway, Max Payne 1 and 2, The Punisher (2005), Bully (GTA in high school basically), Just Cause 2, Mafia 1 and 2, Hitman series. That's just to name a few.

Red Faction:Guerilla, the story is meh, the game is quite easy, but the gameplay is probably the funnest ever. You can literally destroy everything with a hammer. Highly recommend.(not to mention it's super cheap)

How on earth did we make it this far into the thread without someone mentioning the SOCOM series?

EDIT: Oh wait, OP wanted PC or Xbox games... nvm then. *exits thread*

I'm guessing you're implying that the game has more than 3 story missions. Well, it only has 3. Play the game yourself and see. The rest are side/character/recruitment missions that affect how the game plays out. The load times were huge, no arguing about that. As for the boring setting, thats just my opinion.

I'm currently playing Dead Space 2, its great, but I'm limiting myself to finishing only one chapter per day because I don't like rushing through single player based games. I'm looking for more action oriented games. I'm thinking about just getting GTA IV again, I was only 1 hour in the game before my brother sold it (he had the 360 before I did).

You can download Metal Arms: Glitch In The System on the 360 for $15 I think. It has no cover system, but it's a damn good game in my opinion.
